My consolidation run

This has become my regular run as we enjoy lockdown. Cornwall has a lot of narrow lanes with blind bends, high hedges, fast drivers and tractor drivers on their mobile phones (hemm hemm).

This is the safest run and starts at 5 minutes’ brisk walk from my door.

Downhill for 3 minutes (hooray) then 5 excruciating minutes uphill (boo) to the horizon as per the photo. Then the Toxic Ten Tree when I check my watch. About turn at the Pengenna road sign at 15 minutes.

Downhill again (hooray!!) but back up the valley (boo) to the start point. Target: 30 minutes and still conscious.

There is a 60 minute variant but I’m too soon off the IC for the time being.

That’s it VRBs. So lucky to be in such a lovely part of the world in these trying times.

That looks very similar to where I live... I really like the country lanes and the peace and quiet it brings... so good you are able to keep your running up :)

Then we’re both very lucky. These last days have been cold but brilliant. On the days between runs I walk the same route with little detours over stiles.

I noted that you run every day. I haven’t reached that point yet.

I used to ride horses round some of those lanes when I was growing up in Cornwall HF - that was rather easier than running up them I suspect! Enjoy those up and down runs now you’re off the IC!

That looks lovely. We have friends in Devon and I always remember the very high hedges there too. Driving is a nightmare as you sometimes can’t see a thing!

The drivers around here are, on the whole, considerate and drive slowly. But I still stop and stand to one side every time a car passes. Just in case. It looks as if you don’t have a lot of room to do that on your road.

Enjoy your running 🏃🙂

That’s a wide road! In normal times you want to get your car following a white van whose driver knows no fear!!

Oh yes! I just ran it using C25K W1R1 as a basis just for a bit of variety 😁

We go through Cornwall every year. We used to stay there until we fell for the added remoteness of the Isles of Scilly. I think of friendly bars with beers like the hoppy Proper Job and a climate which has a softness about in summer; it just feels like your absorbing a gentle warmth which is relaxing and restorative. A lovely part of the world. It will soon have you fit as a folk group fiddle. 🙂

When life returns perhaps you might try a Parkrun in Cornwall? Yes, I remember pubs and Proper Job but for the duration of this I’m stopping drinking.

I am in an alcohol free zone too. Sadly the holiday routine involves catching the Saturday ferry first thing, Saturday being changeover day at our accommodation. Really nice idea though 😊

Hi - Also in Cornwall, Herniss halfway between Falmouth and Helston, so battling the hills as well! Was managing 30 mins on the flat in Brighton but after a 2 month layoff I'm only managing 20 mins in hilly Kernow!

However it is 20 minutes up hill and down dale and so at least I haven't lost total condition. I run alongside the main A394 up to and past the pub. The lanes around here are so tight that your wing mirrors touch both sides - no where to get out of the way for cars that are generally going too fast for the road conditions!

Stay well!

Hi Enxo

I can imagine how narrow the lanes are your way. We’ve got friends in Port Navas and I dread meeting other cars coming the other way. We used to have an old battered Land Rover and didn’t give a hoot. But it rusted to death. Yes, an unrustable Landy. But this is Cornwall !

Keep safe and just grit your teeth on the hills.

Just had some good news - subject to all the usual checks - I've been accepted as a VSO volunteer to Rwanda! Its a very hilly place so I better take this hill running more seriously!
