I've not run for a whole month.

My last run was a 5k PB, prior to that I'd run a very comfortable but not fast 10k. I've just been to the doctor who says it could be soft tissue damage. What does that mean?

I've been walking with a limp for 4 weeks and my foot is still swollen. How long could I be out for?

I can't put my feet up because I have to get to work and I am on my feet for most of the day. Since my foot isn't in a cast I don't get a seat on the bus or tube so sometimes I'm standing on the good foot to take pressure of other foot. Annoyingly when I went to see the doctor the pain was much less than it's been it in the metatarsal area of my middle toe - ie the one next to my big toe.

Any thoughts?

So sorry to hear about this. Poor you. I would always go to see a sports physio rather than my go about an injury. They are specialists and able to give you help and advice back to recovery. Can your go refer you to an nhs physio or can you contact one yourself privately? Good luck

4 weeks seems long. I would get that physio referral.

Shit. So sorry to hear this. I hope your better soon. None of us are doctors. Just rest up. Each injury is different. Unfortunately not every cure works for everyone.

Sports physios are my go to people on injuries. I am definitely not a medic, but how bad does something have to be before an X-ray is sensible, just to check that there isn't a break/fracture? The right sports physio will decided whether they are prepared to treat it or say that you need an X-ray first. Sooner you know what you are dealing with the better.

Hi runningyogini, sorry to hear you have foot pain. 😫

Do try to elevate your foot for 20 to 30 mins a day if possible. Leg high up on cushions above the level of your heart which will help reduce the swelling. You may also wish to ice the area for short periods when you get chance.

Continue to rest from running, (no choice is there) and go back to your doctor for a physio referral if things don't improve. I agree a sports physio would help diagnose what your injury is more quickly if you are able/willing to pay.

Good luck. I understand your pain, as I am also on the IC with Plantar faciitis since December. xx
