Whenever I start to feel like I am making progress with my running, something goes wrong
Just got back up to 5k after about 6 months of having to have walk breaks and now I've got hip pain. Having researched it, looks like bursitis but it has responded well to rest and stopped hurting after a week. Tried a gentle 1k run and no pain at the time but some discomfort afterwards. Does anyone with experience of this have any advice? Should I consult a sports physio? Or is rest the only answer? Not looking for medical advice just other people's experience. Got my first 10k booked at the end of March and my training was on track but now I'm worried.

A physio can check you over and give you exercises to do at home to help. I have had issues with my hip and saw my gp who booked me an appt with a local physio and it really helped. The physio did tell me to rest from running until it was feeling better and then to build back up gradually, doing a mix of walking and running, not go straight back to 5km plus.
It's frustrating when things don't go to plan but there will be other 10k events you can do if you're not sorted in time for the one in March. Better to get yourself properly better than risk making it worse.
I've suffered hip bursitis for years after skiing too much. Strangely since taking up running no issues. I really feel for you, it can be very painful. 1 year I couldn't drive for a couple of weeks as the pain of using foot pedals was too much. Good luck getting diagnosis and recovery, dont push too hard too quickly, I know from experience that bursitis can take ages to clear. Happy running
