I am having a steroid injection in the hip on Friday. 😱At the moment I am running twice a week and have just got to 8k for at least one of the runs. Any advice appreciated about how I can carry on and minimise any loss of fitness.
Apologies if you have seen this post before but I had no replies which is odd as everyone is usually so helpful. I have seen a padlock by the post but don't know how I got it there, Dog Child suggests I may have inadvertently made the post restricted or invisible 🤔😕.

Certainly the information I am reading, ranges from no running for 7 to 10 days to 10 dyas to two weeks after an injection into joint, so not helpful
Because we are not experts, it is the advice you will be given on Friday after the injection that will be the most accurate; follow that and then after the suggested time resume some gentle exercise.
Hope it goes well and rest assured, the runs do wait and even after what seems like a really long time, we do get back to it
Thanks Floss, I will try to be sensible, that'll be a first 😂 it's just that I've just started to feel my running is coming together but as you say the runs will wait
I had a guided steroid injection into the hip joint. I was quite painful and I couldn’t weight bear for 3 days. It then took a couple of weeks to be able to walk normally. There is no way I would’ve been able to run or do any exercise during that time.
Unfortunately, after all that it only gave me a couple of days pain relief.
Hopefully for yourself, an injection into the soft tissues shouldn’t be as painful and should give you a better result. Fingers crossed for you 🤞🏼
I can’t walk more than about the distance of a bus stop with my bursitis. However, when I have a steroid injection, I can walk again - lasts about four months. I think it depends who gives it to you. I had a guided injection - three health people involved. It did nothing forme. But I have had three now from my consultant which have been great. His way of finding where to inject - prod hard all around the area until I yell out in pain when he his the spot, then straight in with the needle to that very spot! Wonderful relief! I haven’t been able to have one for five months because of COVID 19 as he is doing something to do with that. Impressed with your running! I don’t know why they can’t just take the bursa out.
Thanks for this, my GP found the spot like your consultant but it only lasted 3 days☹️ I have since cut back to running twice a week 5k and one slightly longer 7k is OK, 8k is the maximum, seems a bit better.
I had these injections for hip bursitis many years ago, a long time before I started running
They worked, but I found swimming crawl the best solution. I think it's quite important to do strengthening work on the area as well as the steroid injection. I do empathise, hip bursitis is horrible. Have you also seen a physio?
