A treat in the sunshine

Well thanks to a comment made on another post by Runaroundsue I plucked up the courage to meet with a running group in Lanzarote.

I warned them that I was by no means an expert having never run with a group and didn’t want to hold anyone up. What a lovely bunch of people they were. They all said they were up for a slow and steady 5k.

Seven of us took off along the beach promenade at 6pm with the sun shining and a few people still enjoying their sunbathing.

I had mentioned my normal time for a steady 5k was 35mins and was pleased that I seemed ok keeping up with their supposedly “slow” pace of 6.30mins/km. Oh how that changed at the halfway mark!!

I really struggled on the way back and at 4K was ready to give up. Some great encouragement and cheering from the others kept me going to the end though. Why are all runners just so lovely? 😊 Boy that was hard work, but apparently 5.2k done in the 35mins - it felt a lot faster/harder but maybe it was because I was running in the evening which is a change for me & I guess the warmer weather messes with your running too.

Anyway, I’d left my husband and his mum who is visiting us at a restaurant so just had time for the obligatory post run ice cream before setting off to join them....oh once I’d promised to join the group again next week 😬😬

Fabulous, and what a lovely running group you have found. Bit jealous of that lovely sunset - it's bucketing down here in Kent this morning!

Oh I’m a Kent girl - not looking forward to getting back to the cold and wet ☹️

Heat bliss 😀 sounds like a lovely group you've found, enjoy your runs together. That was a great time you ran. I'll think of your heat when I'm out later, currently -3 so too cold even for me. Happy holiday and happy running

Eeek -3?! That’s a definite duvet day!

Definitely. We have relocated our walk today because the forecast is -3 to -4 in Macclesfield forest (plus sleet and fog)

Same temperatures for our new destination but without the minus!

Excellent, I am so glad that you enjoyed it. I suspect that you will be a bit ahead of me when we meet there. I think I am usually about 36 minutes to the airport and back.

Was it windy on the way back? That can make a difference.

Also as you say, running in the evening.

Plus we have a 40 minute walk to get there (and back). The first time we took a taxi but it was late picking us up so we walk now. Although I might need to run there and back if I am to fit in my monthly 10k run during February.

I don’t remember any wind but I’ll take that as another excuse 😂. Hope to meet up with you next week then x

Oh how lovely Scampiedoodle, that sounds idyllic and well done for keeping up! 🏃‍♀️🏃☀️ How long are you there for? Don’t rush back, it’s hideous here at the moment. 💨💦💨💦💨💦

I can’t wait for my week of warm weather running in a couple of weeks time. My daughters (and 5 month old grandson) are off on our annual jaunt to Tenerife. 👍😎🏃‍♀️☀️

It is idyllic. We keep watching the weather back at home and aren’t looking forward to coming back. Luckily we have another few weeks yet so hopefully I can acclimatise! Enjoy Tenerife x

We're ready for tonight.

We ran on Saturday, which was very nice. But I think it is going to be hotter today. Nice and slow I think

Great, I hope to be there tonight although am currently feeling very lethargic so slow will definitely be my mantra!
