Well thanks to a comment made on another post by Runaroundsue I plucked up the courage to meet with a running group in Lanzarote.
I warned them that I was by no means an expert having never run with a group and didn’t want to hold anyone up. What a lovely bunch of people they were. They all said they were up for a slow and steady 5k.
Seven of us took off along the beach promenade at 6pm with the sun shining and a few people still enjoying their sunbathing.
I had mentioned my normal time for a steady 5k was 35mins and was pleased that I seemed ok keeping up with their supposedly “slow” pace of 6.30mins/km. Oh how that changed at the halfway mark!!
I really struggled on the way back and at 4K was ready to give up. Some great encouragement and cheering from the others kept me going to the end though. Why are all runners just so lovely? 😊 Boy that was hard work, but apparently 5.2k done in the 35mins - it felt a lot faster/harder but maybe it was because I was running in the evening which is a change for me & I guess the warmer weather messes with your running too.
Anyway, I’d left my husband and his mum who is visiting us at a restaurant so just had time for the obligatory post run ice cream before setting off to join them....oh once I’d promised to join the group again next week 😬😬
