My first 10K race

I completed our local town 10km race, along with about 2,000 others, on Sunday. It was fun running along closed roads, and I even ran past our estate, which was closed to vehicular access (oh how we have cursed this event in previous years).

It was pretty hard going, but I completed it and was quite happy with my time - well within my personal best, and about the same as my 5K pace.

The couch was my friend for the rest of the day though, as I was thoroughly knackered. I am not used to 10km, and it does take it out of me.

Next Sunday is the London Winter Run, also 10K, and I have been sponsored for over £400 by friends and family. This is another new experience for me. Unfortunately, the weather forecast looks appalling, so I hope it's wrong.

Congratulations on your 10K run on Sunday, looking forward to the next 10K this coming Sunday, there are wind warnings for the whole UK for this Sunday, so expect a harder run than your run last Sunday.

In recent years you were annoyed at your street being closed by all those runners, now you were one of them, well done, good luck for your run this Sunday, I just hope the wind won't be too strong.

Brilliant! Well done on your first 10k and great that it was a local one. It must have been great running around your local roads as part of an event 🙂 Yep, London Winterrun is going to be "interesting" if the current weather forecast is correct! I am running it too and am now checking my weather app daily! Nevermind, should still be a good day hopefully and the bling is beautiful!!🏅

Fantastic! Hope you enjoy Sunday and have a great race.

I think linda9389 might be organising a pre-race meet up if you're interested. 👍

🎉👏🏼🎉 Well done indeed. Sounds such fun. And good weather-luck for the next one. Sometimes these fronts are sooner or later than predicted, so we will hope it works this time. 😄 Otherwise - well, it will make a great story afterwards! 🤔😳

Very well done IACM! 👏👏👏 Impressive being able to manage your 5k pace over 10k too. You’re clearly a speedy one! 😀

Good luck next Sunday. 🤞 the wind behaves itself, and if it does insist on being strong, at least make it a constant tailwind! 😅 💨

Charlie, I think for you to have come so far in the time since we graduated is phenomenonal, as magical as Old Stripey and the Mouse Organ 🤗 Good luck for next week, as Cheeky says, to keep your pace over twice the distance is awesome 👏🏅🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🙋‍♀️

Congratulations and well done - the Winter 10k in London is my first 10k so I hope I'll be reporting like you on your first 10K - see you there! :)

I'm watching that forecast closely too - not that I can change it! It's ever so slightly better than yesterday 🤣. At least the temp looks reasonable. Make sure you have an old top to keep you warm/dry while you're waiting - you can discard this just before the start line and it will be collected for charity. As Cantstopmenow says, we're aiming for an HU meet up outside Canada House around 8.45/9am if you'd like to say hello! But if we don't see you (and JOP66 and Sandraj39 ), good luck, enjoy and let's hope there's lots of shelter from the buildings 🤞❄

Cool. I’m in the last wave (I said I was slow) so I’m not sure when I will arrive as I don’t want to be waiting too long in that weather. I will certainly try to find you all there.

There's a few HUers in the last wave but if you arrive early you can probably start early! It doesn't sound overly policed. Keep the old jumper on until you're well into the funnel and no one will know your wave 🤣. So long as you don't try to join the waves in the first half it is unlikely to matter very much. It usually gets very muddled once you get much past the halfway mark of a huge event like this to be honest. Be good to see you if you can make it 🙂

That sounds terribly naughty. ;) Being at the back does have the advantage that I am not overtaken by thousands of people who are seeing me as a mobile chicane. That's what I found with my first organised race last year where I was persuaded to start near the front.

I don't waiting around, as long as I don't need to do it entirely in the wet.

I am running with a group from work as well, so I was planning to get there around 9am anyway. Let's see. I expect it will be pretty chaotic.

You should definitely start where you are comfortable! Lovely to have people to run with too 😍
