Good morning everyone, hope you're all doing well?

So, for the first time there was to be a Santa dash in the park over the road, I'd seen the posters dotted around town but didn't really fancy joining in only because I know how muddy the park is but, when Friday night came, I was having second thoughts, how could I sit at home when there was all that fun going on right outside my window? And, it's not really a sight you can ignore is it?! So, I decided to message one of my friends who is the boss of the local running club because he knows about all things running around town. To my joy, he told me that I could register at 11.45am where I would, in return for my fee, be handed a santa suit and a number. So that's what I did. I handed my fee over, collected my suit and took it back home to change into...i felt like a right burke!! The kids laughed, Daddycav laughed, I laughed, dare i walk out of the house in this? It's different when theres a group of you but on your own?!! When I stepped out of the house there were so many santa filled cars parked outside I didn't feel bonkers anymore!! I made my way across the road and it was already a sea of red and white, there was Christmas music playing, lots of laughing, excited children and photo taking, the atmosphere was wonderful. Even when you start on your own you're not alone for long where running is involved! I chatted to various Santas, they all had their own stories to tell of why they were doing this run. A few of you may remember when Iost my friend to cancer a couple of years ago and she stayed in this hospice who the Santa run was for so although I'd left it too late to get any sponsors I felt I was doing my little bit and have made a decision to do more for overgate as my friends daughter who is only 13 has been diagnosed with a rare bone cancer and in January she has to have one of her legs amputated, the shock of this reduced me to tears when I found out about the amputation while talking to another friend of mine only on Friday night,so although she has nothing to do with the hospice yet, there might come a time when she does, hopefully not but the prognosis is not good. So, I was running my santa run for little Phoebe yesterday...lovely, smiley Phoebe who's dancing days are over for now. I have run for many charities on my running journey this year as I've collected a medal a month but, although it's nice to get some bling for our efforts, really, this has brought it home to me just how much of a difference it makes to peoples lives when we run and how much good we can do. I'm hoping and praying that Phoebe will come out of the other side and live a long and happy life. I cannot imagine what my friend and her husband are going through, it's just heartbreaking. My new years resolution this time round is to carry on running for charity, I know a small fee and a run in return for a medal isn't much but I feel like I'm doing my bit.

Happy running everyone, whatever your reasons xxxxx

A very inspiring post from you Mummycav, you may have noticed that I posted a photo of the Glasgow 5K Santa Dash, it made me think that perhaps next year I'll run it rather than just cheer the runners on.

Oh Bev. Broke my heart to read about your friend’s daughter. How awful for a child to have to go through that...and her poor parents. 😢 I am so proud of you for using your running for good. It doesn’t matter the amount, every penny counts, it really does. I love the fact that we can combine our passion for running with raising money and awareness, it is a silver lining. Our Parkrun was collecting food for the Big Red Box campaign yesterday, and it warmed my heart to see so many people come laden with festive foods and staple goods for the collection.

Love seeing you dressed as Mummychristmas - what a hoot!

Lots of festive love to you, dear VRB. xxx

Thank you Sadie-runs , I agree, it is lovely to see people helping each other or coming together at events like the santa dash yesterday. The world is sometimes not such a nice place so seeing people from all walks of life helping in whatever way they can is special. I am waiting for my December medal to arrive and then I will post on here so you can all see!! Thank you for your support over this year again Sadie, it means a lot xxx sending lots of festive love your way too xxx

It's really awful when things go wrong in life and there is no control over it. I do hope your friends daughter never needs the hospice care.

Then there is people like you Mummycav who join in today's Santa dash and can contribute to help the people that needs it most.

On a lighter note I love your photos you make a great Santa. 🤗🎅🎅🤶🤶

What a fab thing to do!! I love it, good on you for getting involved :)

But what a terribly horrendous thing to happen to your friend's daughter, poor, poor girl.

I would love to sponsor you, is there a way I can do that? xxxx

I know we all have different and varied reasons for running but one of the lovely things we can all do now is use our newly developed skill (well, new in my case) for things like this. I will pray for Pheobe too, and you never know, she may well be dancing again one day.

Plus I ran in a Santa outfit yesterday so I know exactly how hard you worked and what a fool you feel when you are alone in costume. Very well done x 🤶🏻🎅🏻

Oh that’s heartbreaking for Phoebe and her parents. It certainly does put life in perspective when something so tragic happens. The Santa dash is a great way to bring joy to many and support good and important causes. Well done you. It’s going to be a tough Christmas for your friend and her family. I hope they can enjoy the season and have strength for the difficult times ahead. Xx

Good for you MummyCav. A fun event for a very deserving and sadly needed cause. A chance to run but with loved and lost ones in hearts and minds.💞

So sorry to hear what little Pheobe is going through. I hope she will be ok, what a brave little girl she must be. Its so easy to forget the difficulties others are facing, so thank you for reminding us and well done.😊xx
