Anyone else run the Dorney Lake 10k?

Hi. I’m planning to run the Dorney Lake Christmas 10k on 14 December, mainly because it’s flat!!

Just wondering if anyone else has run it and how they found it. It will be my graduation run on the Bridge to 10k!

I've run round Dorney lake, but never at an organised event there. Other people have said races there are well organised. It's absolutely flat! I suspect 10k will be more fun than a half marathon there, as you will just get to run two laps rather than four, which would get a bit tedious I think. Hope you enjoy it, I'm sure there will be a great atmosphere and a fantastic way to graduate.

Thank you, that’s really good to hear and I agree about the half marathon although that is certainly something I will never need to worry about!!! 😂

Never say never! These days I often cycle round Dorney (though on the paths through the trees rather than round the lake) - if I'm there I'll cheer you on!

How lovely for you and thank you. I will be on my own and haven’t told anyone I’m doing it (apart from all the lovely people on here). I aim to go home with my medal and show it off to my son the next day when he visits from Canada for Christmas 😊

Fabulous - he better be very proud of you 😍

I’m very lucky, he often tells me how proud he is which is lovely.

I just took a look - it's run by F3 events - I ran one of their HMs in May and they were great. There are all sorts of events on that day at Dorney - all run by F3 - they have a duathlon (which is something I really fancy trying) but the entry fee is £50 upwards which is beyond me at the moment - the 10K looks a lot more reasonable!

Glad you think they’re good but as you say they do seem to charge more than others. Maybe it’s something you could consider for next year if it’s an annual event.

If you like cycling, have you done Ride it Night? That was my first challenge a couple of years ago. I didn’t even have a bike when I signed up!!! It’s a bike ride from Windsor to London and back at night, just in case you haven’t heard of it

Thanks for the encouragement it’s much appreciated.

Oh wow, have you done ride the night? I've signed up for the 100k in London in May! Only rediscovered my bike this summer while I was unable to run because of a stress fracture. Was suffering from race withdrawal so signed up for RTN! Was it London you did? Are you doing it again? I've done all my cycling solo, so have signed up on my own 🙂

Sorry, you said it was London! They've changed the route this year - it's starting in Stratford at the Olympic park but they haven't revealed the rest of the route yet 🤣

in reply tolinda9389

Yes I did it a couple of years ago. We started in Windsor and cycled to London and back.

No I’m not doing it next years as learning to run is challenge enough for me. I have signed up for the Great South Run which is a flat 10 miles.

Well done you though, that’s great. It’s a fantastic atmosphere and how interesting that they haven’t revealed the route!

Knowing I did that does help me when I find running hard. I remember cycling up lots of hideously steep hills on freezing winter mornings.

I will be thinking of you. I’m sure all your running will help. x

I did GSR last year - great target to aim for. Enjoy :)

I saw the Olympic rowing there but not run it. Good luck though.

Thank you. A few weeks to go so all being well I’ll be fine.

it's a great way of graduating, and you get bling, which we all love.

Indeed and I shall work out how to put up a picture of it 😊
