I had a disaster this weekend. At my local park run and feeling really confident (fatal) I managed to sprain my ankle. Initially I thought it was minor but as the day wore on I realised I’d really done some damage. It looks like I’m out of action now for a good few weeks. Nightmare! I wonder if anyone can advise me, if it’s possible to get support socks for when I start again. I’ve trawled the internet, but can’t really see anything. Any advise would really be appreciated. X

Sprained Ankle 😩
So sorry you've sprained your ankle .
A while back I was getting ache at my ankle and bought these . They are great. Don't know if they are of any use to you.
Ouch poor you, make sure you dont return too soon. Hope you get sorted and back running soon
Sorry to hear that! You should pre-book some runs in your calendar for a few weeks from now so you don't lose your motivation to get back out running. Maybe buy some fancy new running gear too that you'll be aching to use.
Ouch. I do have a pair of ankle supports (bought when Lidl had a running week last year, but available cheaply at places like Decathlon all year round). That said, I didn’t actually use them when I returned from my ankle injury around new year, I just cut my run length right down (literally starting at half a mile) and added half a mile to my run weekly... so it only took a few weeks to be back at 5k. I did lots of strengthening work once I was walking pain free again (couple of weeks). If you’re not already there, the Strength and Flex forum is perfect for finding these with the plan itself and also other posts, especially one a couple of weeks ago from OldFloss all about working the feet and ankles healthunlocked.com/strength......
Hope you have a speedy recovery.
ouch!!! just take it easy and only run when you feel ready. good luck and keep us posted
Thanks so much everyone. This really is a great forum. 🏃♀️
I sprained my ankle last year, it takes several weeks to recover fully and I was not running at the time. Keep the ankle elevated for a few days, try not to move around on it too much, can you work from home? There is a good physio exercise shee ton the NHS website for sprains to strengthen it again. Just be easy on yourselve however don't expect an overnight miracle. If it's visibly bruised, black and blue it will need to heal and you'll need to be patient. I'm sorry this happened
As JaoJao has demonstrated, this isn't going to be a fast fix.
Any injury that needs some sort of support afterwards should be a support recommended by a physio or gp or you run the risk of weakening that part (I once wore my biker boots a lot following a minor motorbike accident and made a small sprain much worse and very weak with too much support) or doing too much too soon.
You're going to have to rest it as much as physically possible until any swelling or bruising is gone. Try to get in to see a physio so you have the right exercises to do and a clear path for recovery.
Meantime... check out Strength and Flex forum for upper body and floor work you can do safely and Caroline Jordan's Hurt foot fitness videos for cardio, floor and strength work to save your sanity in the meantime.
Doing what you can do is better than doing nothing and really helps to bridge the recovery gap, and it might just bring you back stronger than ever!
