I’ve crossed the bridge!!

I never really thought I’d ever run 10k (tbf I didn’t think I’d get to 5!!) and although I always knew I had stamina, at 63 I’d never (ever) run. I set off in April last year and today I ran 10k. 😉😱😳🤗 I’ve now matched my 2 daughters (in distance - not time) so I’ve begged them to go no further 🤣. Excuse me - I’m off to get a new, shiny and very unexpected badge. Thank you friends for inspiring me to do any/all of this. Time was 1:17:13 so I’ve found my inner slow. Happy days.

Happy running.

They’d better not!! Didn’t think I was competitive but fear I might be !! 🤣

Good job I don’t know them then 😈. At the moment 10k is my favourite distance though, it fits into my day pretty well.

🤣 I wouldn’t have done it this weekend if they hadn’t needed marshals at parkrun yesterday. I’d thought I’d run there but it meant today I’d more time. I’m busy with grandchildren during the week so tend only to get out at weekends.

Oh that’s scary and flattering in equal measure. I’ll be 65 next month so anything is possible it seems. If you’d told me this when I left school in 1975 I’d have laughed. Running? ME???!!! Good luck with your runs.

Thank you. I’m never sure about times as I always (apart from parkrun) run alone. I assumed it was slow as I didn’t struggle at any point and that’s unusual.

I'm 63 as well! A good age! I let my running slip and am now working my way back up distance wise, currently at 7 km. What are you next running plans?

Sybilw profile image
SybilwGraduate10 in reply toover61andstilltrying

Well I started at 63 but will be 65 next month 😱 (just not in my head!!). No plans to go further but maybe an organised 10k. My daughter is doing the London Landmarks in February 🥶🥶🥶

Congratulations Sybilw, you do deserve that shiny 10k badge. 20k graduation is so special and you’ve worked hard for it. 🥂🏃‍♀️👏👏

Edit: I’ve just realised you did it in 77 minutes. You’ve just joined an elite club: I did my 1st and 2nd 10k In 77 mins and so did Oldfloss .

That is brilliant! congratulations! I did the magic plan for time earlier this year, having started C25k in January, and am now very slowly working my way through again trying to run the distances. I have had a bit of a hold up over recent weeks with a sore hip but really hope to get back out again this week. I am 65 and like you have never been a runner so it a bit of a surprise to find that I am still going!

Sybilw profile image
SybilwGraduate10 in reply toGwenllian1

This plan is nothing short of miraculous! I’ve been lucky with only a sore foot early on (bought proper shoes!). Hope your hip lets you get back out soon. Can’t keep an 👵🏻 down!! My 65th is next month - how is it up there?

Gwenllian1 profile image
Gwenllian1Graduate10 in reply toSybilw

Well to be honest I think this is one of the best times of my life. I have lost the tyranny of work (and I loved my job so that's a surprise). And I feel I have all the delights of family in the form of adult children and grandchildren but without the relentless demands of small children. The downside is a bit of physical decrepitude but I'm fighting back!

Sybilw profile image
SybilwGraduate10 in reply toGwenllian1

Fight all the way! I stopped work a few years ago but to look after a grandchild so in fact didn’t give up work! Now have 6 and look after 3 of them regularly (if you call shift work regular 😆).
