Although we started the planks yesterday they are hard
So off we went and the park was full of people it’s such a lovely day there were dogs everywhere too
I suggested we go really slow at the beginning so we warmed up for 5 minutes and off he went, we did the first kilometer in 8.43 that’s one of our fastest so we slowed down and did another 2 in a much more sedate time and did a few fast intervals at thee d which were fun, I was somewhat disappointed in our stats and distance then remembered we usually include the walk at beginning and end so it looks further
Glad i didn’t go for the distance plan we weren’t up to 5 k today so 30 minutes and over 3k all running
Who knew that i look so peculiar running

Well we all look a bit strange in running gear, i get to about 10 minutes and have to tie my top round my waist i’m a cold person and am really surprised i get so warm running
It’s a thin hoodie but enough to start me off, we do our warm up walk saying things like, it’s cold out here that winds a bit keen and then another five minutes running and are stripping off lol
I don’t see peculiar... I see one of those runner type people that I wanted to be a couple of years ago! Great start to the plan... and don’t worry about those stats, the only one that a device can measure that’s important is that 30 minutes... the only other things to measure are the enjoyment and sense of accomplishment... you guys can check each other’s smiles post run for that.
Thanks, we aren’t really bothered by stats as long as we can run, we will never be fast I wasn’t fast when i ran in my 20’s so it won’t happen now and our grins stretch wide
That’s perfect... wide grins are what counts. When I get lapped at parkrun by one of the twenty something rockets, I just figure they’re missing out on the scenery! My priorities are different to theirs for sure, I doubt if we could switch bodies on week either of us would enjoy the run!
No although i sometimes wish i could go back and appreciate who i was then, i ran 6 days a week and regularly covered 7 miles or more, i must have been in pretty good shape
We were definitely moving into tubby old age when we started this and i’m so glad we started, not just the planks to do today lol
Don’t we all... but you may go more that 7 regularly at some point. I was a fast kid, but 4K was my max... so I’d beat him over 20k no problems!
I like planking, easy week for me as far as the featured exercise is concerned... you’ll hear some swearing from me during bridges week though! Of course if they’d put burpees in, someone else would be leading the group 🤣. Over in strength & Flex we had a weekly thing to put something different into the routine for just a week at a time... some of the things we hate or neglect are very beneficial. I’ll be getting that going on there again this coming week.
It all makes us stronger and that’s the main aim for me stronger and fitter, by my age my mum was slow and round with sore knees the advice she got was to not stand not carry things and not walk unless she had to, such a difference to today’s advice
Yet the half-life of facts is pretty long in medicine... think it’s over 50 years. They definitely got the exercise thing wrong for a long time though... maybe because they didn’t do any!!
Congratulations on getting started on the new plan. Good move not to go fast, you've long times to cover here. Cant believe you are running bare arms, we still have snow in the garden brrr. Happy running
That's a fantastic start! I'm going to start this plan soon too, so I'll be following your progress with interest - I'm going to have to learn to slow it down to get the distance. I've got to get back up to 30 minutes again first, but I'm looking forward to the new challenge! I'm definitely going to try doing the exercises too. It can't hurt!
