Another early rise with a mission. I’ve added yoga and strengthening to my routines and I’m sure it’s doing what it’s supposed to, but after my early morning run today, my left thigh and buttock are still feeling a bit tender 🤔.
I did my pre-run yoga and today’s benchmark run was doable, but not as carefree as I would like. My pace was slow too and the whole point of the benchmark is for it to be short and fast so that your plan can be adjusted. I did post-run yoga too and have noticed the tightness in the hamstring.
I’ve never experienced any of this before, so I’m not sure what’s changed, but I think it’s wise to take a couple of days to give my hamstring time to unknot properly. So, I’m taking the brave step in allowing my intuition to guide me 🤓, as I think I can trust that it’s not gremlins in disguise. I’m too strong for them now 💪🏽 😂. I do want to run (it’s a complete bummer😫), but ignoring this may come at a cost. I’m not planning for a race, I’m just doing something fabulously healthy and self indulgent for myself! 🤩! It’s not often you can say that! 😂 So a run, followed by discomfort, isn’t exactly achieving the mission. 😳
I will stick to yoga and gentle strengthening for a few days and then see how I go. 🙃 Better that than the IC for a lot longer! I hope my body gets with the programme again soonest! 😁
Happy running Runners! ❤️

Aww well done for listening to your body Fab. 👏👏 You’re so right, a few days’ rest is probably just what it needs. Push it, and it may end up biting you on the posterior and leaving you on the IC - which I know you don’t want! 😩
But you’re doing sooooo well at the moment. You sound so motivated, so let’s hope a little rest will see your bod up and running again, pain free, very soon. 🤞❤️😀
Thanks so much Cheeky!! I feel strong and very motivated! So, I know that it’s the best thing to listen to what my body is saying right now. I can stay active daily and carry on strengthening. 😉 Let’s call it a little scientific experiment 🧪! Never a dull moment with this running thing! There’s always at least a little light to shine 😂! ❤️
Good advice to yourself Fab...you know its the right thing to do because you know the consequences of ignoring those twinges...you are doing so well getting back to it, this is just a little reminder from your body not to over do it...You are WAAAAY too strong for those gremlins to even think about paying you a visit let alone getting through the door...I think a couple of extra rest days will do you the world of good...sending you healing vibes my friend x
Thanks so much Mummycav!🤗 It’s not easy giving in, but it was much harder to get back on it! 😳 I’m there now and I trust that my routine has already changed in a positive way, so it’s a safe and self caring zone that I’m entering into now!! 🤩 It may only be a few days, but no doubt very much worth it! ❤️
Thanks so much BTP!! 🤗 The niggle keeps coming back! I’ve told myself, “It will be fine”. It’s annoying, but as it’s seems to be sticking around, I know it’s time to listen! I’ll still be doing my strength and flexibility morning routines. So we’ll see. 😁❤️
Just had a “consultation” with one of the training gurus at our local gym centre to show me some new training activities. Most interesting thing to me was he said take one day a week completely off - no running and no training work, even gentle. He reckons the body needs this to rebalance itself and sort of “figure things out.” I know there are lots of points of view on all these things, but this one made a lot of intuitive sense to me, so I’m going to give it a go.
Aaah that’s very interesting Granspeed 😉. I can see how that makes sense too. I’ve just put it down to increasing fitness levels, but maybe a complete day of rest may be beneficial. Then carry on with my strength and flex! 💪🏽Thank you so much! 🤗❤️
Alas, I am pleased to say that my head is not best pleased with this body right now and thinks it's an audacity that it things it's time to stop now of all times when it was just getting good. Thats the bonus I guess. 🤷🏽♀️🤩❤️
Ah thank you JoJo! I am doing just that! I’ve just bought a foam roller from Aldi on line. It looks like it could be a bit of torture and I have been told that it is! 🥴😂! I’m bracing myself! 😂❤️
Oh thank you Annie!! 🤗 I know it’s the right thing. It feels fine before and even during the run, but not long after a run and stretching it’s back 🤔. I’ll hopefully be back to enjoying the after run bliss soon! 😁❤️
Very wise, Fab450. Enjoy lovely, relaxing yoga for a while and take care of your body. I’m sure It will tell you when it’s ready to get out there again. You don’t want to risk being on the IC for weeks by pushing through injury.
Thank you Puppy-love!! 🤗 I agree, I’m feeling good, but it seems to return after a run, so I’m just using a little caution. I’m enjoying the yoga and strengthening too 😁 bonus! ❤️
My running coach said that its dynamic stretches we need to do before a run (squats, skipping fast walking etc), not static stretches like yoga. These are best after a run to cool down.
I can't remember the science behind it, something to with getting the muscles ready for exercise.
Thanks Teresa! 🤗 I’ve heard that 😁. My son has shown me some dynamic stretches too🤩. I’m easing off running for a couple of days and just giving my body time to rest a bit. ❤️
Definitely doing the right thing...and when you're desperate to go but know it's not the right thing then you've got to listen (that's not gremlins, that's good old common sense)!
I was due a 4K this evening but wasn't sure after Sundays long run, my calves got really tight so had to cut it short to 2.65K and walked part of that...but I didn't mind, as you say, better that than the IC!
Hope your hamstring loosens up nicely after a couple of restful days 🤞🏃♀️
Thank you Run46! 🤗 I noticed that I wasn’t really able to pick up the pace during the last run. Although it was only a short benchmarking run and doable, I could tell that it was not wise to keep pushing on that tightness. It kind of spoils the enjoyment anyway! 🤷🏽♀️ I’m happy that I feel strong enough to stop, confident that I really want to get out there! That makes a big difference to feeling it’s the right decision. No IC....I’ll have it! 💥😂❤️
