Bronze level obsessive

Today I ran my 30th parkrun of 2019. Earning a bronze level obsessive badge. I’d missed the last 2 weeks due to a family reunion and a family wedding. I ran with my 10 year old Son. I had to drag him out of bed and rush this morning. He wasn’t feeling it and he struggled on this mornings run, but with some gentle coaxing we got around in 28:30. The weather was lovely and loads of the local runners who had taken part in last Sunday’s Dublin City Marathon were wearing their finishers tops which added to the atmosphere. Happy weekend everyone.

Damien

Ooh well done.

And thanks for reminding me to check where I am up to. Next week will be my Silver for 2019. I won't ever get to Gold because we miss 2 parkruns a year when we visit Lanzarote, although we do run 4 times with Lanza Road Runners. There is some talk of a Lanzarote parkrun but we volunteer at Marple several times a year so that stops us reaching the 50

Wow well done to you. I’ll never get to Gold either as I miss a couple with Holidays and family events and I volunteer. I’m going to aim for a Silver next year.

Congratulations on your 30th parkrun of 2019 and what a great time for you and your son.

Weather not too bad here in Scotland also.

Did you eventually get your 50th parkrun t shirt 😊😊

Thank you Buddy. Yes I got my 50 T Shirt a few weeks ago. I’ve only worn it twice so far. I wore it with pride at Eastville parkrun in Bristol a few weeks ago.

Hi Buddy34, you asked me earlier in the week if there might be cake at Dunfermline's 200th parkrun, well the answer is no, however they did give all us runners a small chocolate sweety at the finishing line, the weather was nice and cool and I am sure everyone had a lovely run, there were plenty of congratulations to the volunteers who have been there over the last 200 runs, there were also a few runners who were at the first run just over 4 years ago. Next Saturday I might run at Drumpellier, not sure about that.

Brilliant atmosphere to be at their 200th parkrun. AlMorr and a bonus our weather was ok. See you at parkrun next week if you decide to go 😊

Congratulations and a great time too. Glad you managed to stay dry. The rain started in Lincoln just after I got home but I don’t think everybody was so lucky!

Thanks Sandie. It was gorgeous here earlier. Overcast with light drizzle now.

That’s a great time for a little lad who wasn’t feeling it - and you too of course Damien! Very well done. 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🎉👍

Thank you Cheeky. Oisin really fights going to bed early on a Friday night. So he is sometimes very tired and does not appreciate being dragged out of bed on a Saturday morning to go to a parkrun. 😂What was the name of that yoga YouTube channel you mentioned before? I need to start doing some yoga.

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to damienair

Well even more kudos to Oisin then, what a little trouper. 👍

It’s Yoga with Adriene. She’s fantastic and I see quite a few people on here use her videos too. 😀

Thanks. I’ll give it a try. I pulled my back out a little on Tuesday playing golf. Just stiff. Yoga will help.

She does videos for all parts of the body, hopefully you’ll find a gentle stretchy one to help. 👍🤞😀

I have no excuse. I’m married to a Pilates instructor.😂

Thank you. I’ve really enjoyed working on my parkrun times this year.

Nice run for you today Damienar with your son, well done, not near 30 parkruns for me, it was my 9th parkrun this morning, however, the parkrun celebrated it's 200th run, no cake, a lot of acknowledgements to all the runners and especially the volunteers, who have been there over the last 200 times. although there was no cake, we all got a chocolate sweety.

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply to AlMorr

Nice. Chocolate sweets are much easier than cake baking. Well done to all involved for 200 parkrun events.

Do you think that you may run the big one, the Dublin Marathon, or do you feel 26 miles is too long?

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply to AlMorr

I feel like a half marathon would be a stretch too far. I’ve absolutely no interest. 5K and 10K are fine with me. Running for 1 hour is enough.😀

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to damienair

Same with me Damien, 10K is as far as I intend to run, I have ran three, usually around the 70 minute time, 73.03, 70.20 and a PB of 69.23, I was thinking of running another 10K this Wednesday, I'll set my metromone app at 165 beats/steps/cadence a minute and probably have a time of around 70 minutes, enjoy the rest of the weekend 🏃🏾😊👍

What is a bronze badge? How do you get them? I’m onto 82 now.

That’s an amazing time! Congratulations 👍🏽

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply to Tasha99

Check out running-challenges.co.uk , it’s a google chrome extension which links with your parkrun results. You get badges etc for volunteering and there are loads of challenges, parkrun bingo, alphabet challenge, pirate challenge and loads more. You get a bronze level badge for doing 30 parkrun ‘s in one year, silver for 40 and Gold 50.

I’ll take a look at work 🤣👍🏽 Thanks

Well done to both of you for getting out of bed and running a sub 30 minutes 5k, especially to your son who wasn't feeling it today! Bet he was feeling glad after.

Thank you. He was very happy after. He did a sprint finish too the little git and finished 10 seconds ahead of me.

Well done on the bronze! I think might be getting that too before Christmas! X

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply to JaoJao

I’m at 55 parkruns in total now and plan to be at 60 before Christmas so as I can chase my 100th parkrun and silver in 2020.

It’s great to see the bronze medal beside my name now. Best of luck getting your bronze award.

JaoJao profile image
JaoJaoGraduate10 in reply to damienair

oh no! looks like i won't be eligble for the bronze because the challenge is based on one calendar year, so the count will reset in 2020. I'm not going to get them before December because I am going on holiday in between then! Ah well, i'll try to get them next year!

Tasha99 profile image

How do you get these badges?

JaoJao profile image
JaoJaoGraduate10 in reply to Tasha99

If you have a desktop. Download the “parkrun google chrome extension”. All your badges will appear on there as well as other parkrun challenges x

Brilliant damienair and well done to your son for getting out of bed, even though he lay feel like it...a warm cosy bed is far more appealing than the cold parkrun until afterwards!

Dang! That's a good time!

Can you please coax me so I finally crack 30 minutes?

Well done Dad and lad :)

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply to Irish-John

When Oisin is on his A game he gets around in 26:30, my 5K PB is 25:36 but my home parkrun PB is 26:13. But we normally finish anywhere between 27:30 and 29:00 when we run together. I’m happy with just getting around without stopping.😀

True that - it's not about the time in the clock but the time in our head :)

And having a "good" time either way is always something to be grateful for :)
