Hamstring / Quads tight and sore

After running with my group last Wednesday, during the cool down I noticed a tightness in the back of my right thigh, presumably my hamstring. Over the next few days I could still feel that tightness such as when bending down. I did some hamstring stretches in that time but I didn't run.

Yesterday I felt ok so went for a 5 mile run. During the run I had no problems other than a bit of fatigue in my legs. But after the run, my whole right thigh felt uncomfortable. So as well as tightness and soreness from the back of the thigh, I now also had similar issues at the front, in the quads area. I drove my car in the evening for half an hour and getting out my thigh was so tight and sore. This morning it was the same although some gentle moving and stretching has eased that. I'm due to run tomorrow evening again with my group but I'm not sure if I should? Is a period of not running but contuining with stretches the best way forward? Any advice gratefully received!

It sounds like you shouldn’t run on it. Take some painkillers and anti inflammatory to allow you to gently stretch and get on with “life”. It pain continues seek medical advice. Poor you ☹️

Probably... certainly the not running bit will help. Stretches may or may not depending what’s going on, which obviously we can’t tell. I’d go with some walking to keep the area doing some work, but nothing strenuous, and see how it goes. If it’s not settling down then you’ll need to have a medical opinion, a good physio can only help.
