Feeling gloomy

Presently consolidating my 5k runs having completed C25K a few weeks ago. Had my first injury issue yesterday with a very sore calf which prevented me from finishing my run and this has got worse over night. Can’t understand it as I have done nothing different to what I have done before. Worried how long it will be before i can run again as don’t want to lose the progress made. Any thoughts on time? I don’t feel as if i have pulled or torn my calf, it was almost like severe cramp but as i say still really sore today. Any thoughts would be appreciated

I’m certainly no expert Keswickfan, but my husband is a competitive rower and often gets cramp if he’s had a particularly hard workout in the gym or on the water. It can feel like the muscle is bruised after a severe attack, so maybe that’s what you’re feeling? Were you less hydrated than normal?

Hopefully it’ll pass, but for now take it easy - do you have access to a foam roller? Perhaps some gentle yoga stretches?

Good luck. 😀

Thanks, a roller is a good idea. Dont think i was particularly dehydrated but worth considering for next time. Thanks again x

I had a weird calf thing suddenly during a race, like a permanent twinge, I rested for a week, massaged and stretched it gently. If there is any acute pain then GP trip please otherwise rest should do it. Take care

Are you running 5k 3 times a week or 30 mins? And did you hit 5k when you graduated C25K? Maybe running 5k 3x a week is taking a slight toll? I know I varies 5k / 30 mins for the first few runs... Just my thoughts.

Oh gosh! I do hope after a few days rest it eases...

I am a belt and braces runner... and I still managed to get a minor calf tear a couple of years ago... the trouble is, you don't know you have it.. I did all the right things, did not run for over a week...and then when I went out again it came back... I then repeated the correct procedure for another week .. and back it came again on my run out..

Check my first post about the injury at the time...

I ended up seeing Sports Physio.... and eventually the problems sorted...

We are not medical experts and hopefully your injury is not a serious one.. just take care though...and be patient... As my physio said, injures happen, even to elite athletes!
