We’ve been loving the tales of VRBs meeting up with Lexi6 at different parkruns around UK while on her holidays from New Zealand. So when she said her next parkrun was Wilmslow, I googled it to discover it was not far from Macclesfield where we have friends. 💡
So with nothing planned for the weekend, Accrington Stanley due to play Blackpool at home only 30 miles further north ⚽️, and friends saying do come and visit, the decision was made.
No sooner had Stanley put his viking hat on in the parkrun car park than we were surrounded by Baddiethepirate and Mr & Mrs Lexi.
We introduced ourselves to volunteers and they were pleased to have a kiwi runner joining them and pretty gobsmacked that we had driven from the south coast to do parkrun with someone we hadn’t met before. So shouts were given out to us all in the brief and to a chap who had volunteered 200 times- it was something he clearly loved doing. The volunteers were all totally amazing over this route which consisted of 2 laps plus a beginning and an end. This is a proper park run and complete with a river and fly fisherman. There was one point where we had to walk over a narrow bridge due to congestion. The laps are best described like a bath tub with slopes at both ends . A tough little run for us flat runners, especially after long distance runs this week. I walked up the steeper slope and ran down it. Most enjoyable. We all ran in with Lexi at the end and cheered her final sprint.
We signed the visitors book before heading off to Nourish for a lovely breakfast and natter. Thank you Lexis.
So lovely to put more faces to names, and Mr and Mrs Lexi and Baddie were as lovely in the flesh as on the forum.
Back to Macc for quick shower and change and off to the footie with the Viking hat. We were 1-0 up against Blackpool until 93’ and then calamity 1-1. Poor Stanley. Say no more.
We also got to visit Baddie on her pirate ship on Sunday, before leaving Cheshire 🏴☠️

I love to hear all your parkrun adventures. Ours was special this week as one runner was getting married at 3pm! I was a marshal and we all wore veils and the bride’s family provided a large cake and me and another volunteer provided yet more cake and biscuits!! I was able to tell the runners they were on the downhill stretch (honestly) AND promise cake at the end if they were quick 😋.
Sounds like a lovely day Dexy5, apart from Accrington Stanley only getting a draw😕 Other than that it’s a great testament to the power of Parkrun🏃♂️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♂️
Such a lovely experience meeting Mr and Mrs Lexi6, great photo of all of you, am I correct that in the photograph from left to right are Lexi6, Dexy5, UpTheStanley, Baddiethepirate and Mr Lexi6, if I am wrong, correct me.
Oh what a lovely meet-up! You lucky bunch! It sounds fantastic, and your tally of VRBs is certainly growing in leaps and bounds. Could you possibly make it Eastville on October 12th to meet damienair and mini damienair? 😀
It sounds like a great parkrun too. Proper parks are fun aren’t they? 🏃♀️🏃♂️🏃♀️🏃♂️🏃♀️
Lovely. I saw you had run in Wilmslow, looked at the course and thought it looked tough. We are reasonably close to there tonight having broken our journey home with an overnight stay in Knutsford.
Breakfast in the Briny on Saturday? We have had 3 tourist runs on the bounce, not run Southsea since the pirate day. I also think it’s the last time we can run it until 9th November. The following week Mr C and I are timekeeping as we are running the RNLI 10k on the Sunday (and trying to avoid the England Argentina score until we get home to our recording). The week after that we have a family gathering, the next week we won’t run because of GSR on the Sunday, then we are in Japan for 2 weeks hoping England are still playing .....
Breakfast in the Briny with actual RBs is definitely required. Oldgirlruns ns should be around then too. I get to wear my red shirt for the first time too!
I’ve noticed you’re volunteering soon, so guessed you’d signed up for the race. We considered doing the 8 mile but have decided to just continue training on our own as we’ve recently done the New Forest run.
I am getting anxious about the 4 weeks as still not convinced I will be ready to be on the starting line. Had another week in which I didn’t get a good long run thanks to a tight back from clinging onto the tipping boat. I still haven’t logged anything over 10k since May. However I benefited from a time that wasn’t mine at parkrun on Saturday so not all bad!
The timer and tokens had got out of sync - mine was the time 2 or 3 people further along than they actually allocated me. Re GSR, if I don’t feel I can make the main event without excessive walking, I will spectate. I need to do a 12k run this week, 13.5k the following week, 15k the week after that. If I manage that, I will get round, I just probably won’t do as well as I did last time.
I need to be conscious that we fly to Japan on the Tuesday morning and don’t want to be crocked for that. I flew to Cuba 48 hours after I injured my medial ligament, assuming it would just get better on its own. I spent 3 weeks hobbling around Cuba and it was some weeks before I got a decent range of movement back, and months before it was properly right. And of course after the first month or so, I kept trying to get round parkrun.
Glad you got to meet up with the Lexis and Baddie. It is so special 😃 Hopefully we will get to see lexi6 again for the Giant’s Causeway meet up in a year’s time Irish-John . 2 weeks to Lyme Park 😬😬😬and we are staying at Baddie’s marina in the van so should have time for a good old natter!
