Oops!
I set off this morning, with Merlin free running and followed my nose all the way to the end of one of my usual routes on the hill, and beyond. It was the beyond bit that let me down. Having taken a right to follow the fence line, I was soon having to pick my feet up very high to avoid stumbling over low lying brambles, and was reduced to walking in places. I could see a sort of track ahead of me to my right and down the hill, and assumed - wrongly - that the path I was on would join it. No such luck! The path I was on ended at a fenced in piece of woodland, and you know what they say: A miss is as good as a mile! In this case it was actually as good as sliding down about 8 feet of soaking wet grass on my bum after I’d back tracked a little 🤦♀️ Not far, I grant you, but not really what I had planned.
At least the track I was then on took me exactly where I thought it would.
Unexpected cattle had me walking for a bit, which was frustrating as I felt I’d lost enough time negotiating the dead end part of my run, and I still needed to get Merlin home before heading to Junior Parkrun with the grandsprocket.
With only a small tweak, I even managed to do the 6k I was aiming for, though it did mean I had to skip the cool down walk.
Local Junior Parkrun was celebrating its First Birthday today, so we took cake with us and grandsprocket ‘ran’ - we walked nearly all of it - as Cat Boy from PJ Masks. Still, we had a lovely time, which is the main thing, and there was cake after (he didn’t choose to have any of mine 🤣)
