I’m changing my focus from distance (now that I’m happy doing 10kms and have done 10miles) and I’m going to work on speed.
Yesterday morning I needed to be 6km away to pick up a friend’s car, so I ran it. Perfect, sunny but cool morning. I decided to do The C25k+ Speed podcast. I did it once but was only half way there, so I did it again!!!!! My speed may have dropped since a bout of illness recently but goodness, my stamina must have improved a great deal. The first time I did this podcast months ago it nearly killed me. This time doing it twice saw me flagging, but not on death’s door. How wonderful 😀. I used to turn pink within 5mins of setting of. Now it takes 20-30 mins before my face matches my pink running shoes.
So I am behind on my 700km target for the year but still feeling rather good. I also ran up 49 steep steps yesterday evening and that didn’t kill me either. Right, I’m off for a little recovery...

I keep meaning to try that podcast again. I didn't like it at all the first two times I did it but was determined to do each of the C25K+ podcasts at least three times each (the legacy of the C25K programme).
I remember setting out to do it the third time "to get it out of the way", and I really enjoyed it.
I have done it a few times since but not for a while.
I plan to try the 4th (hilly) Guardian podcast tomorrow so maybe I will try the Speed one later in the week.
Well done BTP. I never took to those podcasts; music jarred a bit and they were aimed at someone who could move more quickly than me. Both age related 😊
Nice! I'm going to shift in focus myself now too. I'm behind on my yearly target and definitely won't meet it but that's ok. This is supposed to be fun.
That's what I call progress baddie, those steps look pretty scary! I don't think enough research has been done on measuring level of fitness by redness of face. It could be called the Tomato Scale. I'd be a great focus of study for that. I now turn my deepest red as I stop running and start the cooldown walk.
I'm going to focus on speed now too. I ran my first 10k this weekend (my plan was to improve my stamina/endurance so I could run 5k quicker-which hasnt really worked!) I tried the speed podcast once and did not enjoy it, but i'm going to give it another go (or use zombie running) to try and improve my speed. I'm also building up my strength doing some core (I maintain that I don't have these 'ab' things) so hopefully speed will come....
Well done on your 10km. You might find if you have a couple of days rest that your speed will have increased. Overall my speed has gone up, but having a cold set me back further than I thought it would. Hope you have fun with the podcast. I f puns it much easier a few months after doing my first 10km so I guess fitness just keeps building up.
