Having tackled the hill that shall not be named this week, I decided I was ready for another crack at Tring parkrun. CP2 volunteered, and I ran it for only the second time. Blimey they don't half set off fast at this one! 😰 They've changed the course, so it's now an out and back- 1k of zigzagging climb, a level-ish top, then back down again, nearly all in trees, and just the bottom on open grass. I came 168 out of 214, which sounds very average I know, but I did it in 34.03, and, get this, first in my age group! (There aren't many vw60-64 to be fair 😁) CP2 meanwhile was doing a sterling job scanning barcodes with a dodgy scanner. Slightly galling, Cp's friend, who hasn't run for weeks and was feeling sluggish, came in only a minute behind me. She's very lovely though so I won't hold it against her 😊 Off for coffee and croissant and counting tokens in the sun. Perfect.

Congratulations on getting a sub 35 minute 5K at this mornings Tring parkrun, that hill you have not named, Cardiac Hill or some other horrible name, there was a hill called heart attack Hill, luckily it was not used for a parkrun. I hope you enjoyed your coffee and croissant after the run with CP2,
Funny you should say that, there was a hill called heart attack hill at this parkrun, but it's not part of the course now. Thank goodness, horrible name!
The zigzagging up and down sounds quite challenging. Glad you had a good run.
Oh well done you! 👍👏🏼🎉 First in age group indeed. And a really good time, I think (as a confirmed tortoise). Awesome. 🎉🐢💕
Great result and hats off to you for taking on the hill! Hope you're basking in beautiful late summer sunshine and glory today.
Great job! My parkrun yesterday was a very similar time - same age group - but beaten by 2 others this week (only about 30 sec ahead - I can get them next time!! 😆). I go up a group at the end of the year but last week the first in that group ran it in 23.13. Yes 23.13!!!
Lordy Sybil, no pressure then! 😨
I know!! 😂
I'm not normally competitive, but parkrun has me checking results like you wouldn't believe. Not as bad as some though. I had the parkrun finish in sight on Saturday, tucked myself in behind a woman who was just ahead of me ready to go through the funnel 20 metres away, when I heard the most awful gasping panting wheezing sound. Coming from a bloke coming up behind me, absolutely purple in the face, determined to pick off me and the woman in front of me. I could have raced him to the finish I suppose, but I wasn't that bothered. Made me laugh inside though. He could barely breathe or move when he finished, whereas I could saunter up to get my barcode scanned. Hah!😁
I was passed in the last few steps by someone who stopped dead at the line (despite shouts to keep running!). Also I WAS beaten by a man with his dachshund (that wasn’t great) and someone pushing a buggy went past on the hill!! It’s all relative!! 🤣
Fantastic, well done!
Thanks rainbow, it felt like I turned a corner with this one 😊
That’s so great and very inspiring. Have a happy day.
That sounds like a great time at any age for a Parkrun with hills!
Also though you thought 168 out of 214 sounded average I'm thinking that means you beat a whole bunch of people that were younger than you 😀...I know it's not a race but that's got to feel pretty good GOG 😉
