Has anybody tried the automatic course creation in Garmin connect? I just tried to create a 7.75 mile route near me... Garmin seem to think I’d like a really tough trail run taking in some big climbs and also that I’d really like to run 10.75 miles. Am I missing a trick or is this feature as useless as it appears?

Who should be trying harder? Gsrmin? Or does Garmin think you can do better? 😁⁉️❔

I did a run with 1km of climbs in it recently... maybe it thinks I want to do that every run?

Then it will be directing you to Tough Mudder and Wolf Runs, then HMs...

I’m sticking to the footpath app I think!

Didn't even know Garmin had that feature

I just found it and had a go... I told it trail running and every time it came back with roads and lanes until I got to 15 milers but even then it used way too much road with some being very unsuitable!

I use the OS app and pay for OS maps annually to plan my routes so I can keep off the roads 👍🏻

Yeah... I was on running and not trail running when it gave me the nasty trail run. It gets worse if I pick up local routes created by others... 50-80 miles seems to be the minimum for routes marked running... a little investigation shows they were created by cyclists. It’s a shambles.

My issue for my long runs is that I hate road running, but don’t want anything too brutal this year, finding the balance can be tricky.

It is. It took me a while to understand the OS maps enough to find the right kinds of paths and to avoid the worst climbs when I didn't want them. Now I know the majority of the trails it's so much easier but it's always great to find new ones.

Roads are just so tedious and much harder on the body.

Gonna have a look at OS app I think.

There's a free trial period for the maps 👍🏻 def worth a try

I tried it for a long run and it came back with a short 3km loop that I normally run! 🤷

Not just me then! My usual long run is to go down a trail and turn at the halfway, but those climbs are getting unavoidable now. Will ask Garmin to give it some attention.
