Outer thigh pain

I’m about to start the magic plan tomorrow but just wanted to see if anyone could give me some advice.

When I get to about 25 minutes running my left outer thigh starts to hurt. It’s more of a dull aching to begin with but I noticed last time I was out that my knee started to feel a bit numb so I stopped running at 45 mins. It was time to stop anyway as I had done just over 5.5k.

Does anyone know what this might be and what I can do about it?

I’m obviously a slow runner but I do want to progress to 10k.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you

That’s where your IT band is. Could be that. It links your knee and hip. You’d need a physio for advice 👍🏽

There are several IT band stretches for your hips and knees you can incorporate into your after run stretches/strenthening work. I found them online and along with a decent pair of running shoes feel that they've helped with any hip/knee niggles I've had. Good luck 👍

Thanks. I found some exercises and my yoga teacher also gave me some.

Yes I think at some point I will need to get some better running shoes. I’ve spent a bit too much recently on headphones leggings, hat etc. so it will have to wait!! 😊
