I haven’t been running for a while but have been riding my bike. Recently I’ve noticed I get a pain in what feels like the middle of my kneecap. I don’t notice while I’m moving but it’s quite painful at times when I’m moving routinely or at night when I move in bed.
Any suggestions/advice would be welcome. Would some kind of support help?

It's better to see your GP before the pain escalates to something that isn't trivial. Knees are really complex structures so, like nowster says, if rest and icing don't help get it checked before you do some lasting damage.
A couple of easy things to check:Cyclimg: Is the saddle height and angle correct? Sometimes, even 1mm can make a difference bikeradar.com/advice/fitnes...
Running: If you are getting back at running, check your shoes for wear. They might feel right, but not be supporting you correctly. Also knee strengthening exercises, plus stretches before & after are a must.
If those things don't fix thd problem, find a sports physio - they'll diagnose any medical issues.
Thanks Teresa, shoes definitely not worn (sadly I don’t run enough😁 ) but I can check the saddle height. I do stretch before and after, but perhaps not enough. Suggestions much appreciated.
I could hardly walk after my last 2 runs end of last year due to left knee pain. I've had an x-ray and nothing really there. The next step would be a scan but that would take a while.I've been doing slow low heart rate runs so not to put so much pressure on. It's gradually getting better after almost 3 months.
Now it was suggested to me by doctor that I shouldn't be running until sorted and I'm completely taking the blame and it's all going to be my fault if it all goes wrong. The pain back then was unbearable and was a bit sore after half marathon run last weekend. I might do a run this evening but I will stop if it's bad.
I signed up for a few runs last year for a few runs up until my first official marathon in Belfast end of April and am aiming to complete them if I can. There is a feeling that they can be the last hurrah. Anyway I'm rambling now lol ..
