I've treated myself to a new pair of running pants, and they have a small white panel on the side near the top. Not transparent, but you can def see the outline of my underwear.
So, I had a quick conversation with my running buddies about wearing underwear beneath running pants. (I cycle too, and go commando with cycling shorts, as the friction of underwear on the saddle can cause chafing. Cycling shorts are designed so that you're not supposed to wear knickers with them).
So, myself and running buddies are wondering if the same applies to running pants? Opinion is divided. Either way, the ladies will all secretly go commando for our next race, but not tell anyone. We can just giggle and glance knowingly at each other as we line up at the start. π
So, are you supposed to or not?

Mmmm... I don't know. ππ€£. Interesting question. I didn't know that about cycling shorts either.
I was chatting to one of my serious running pals a while ago about pants sometimes being 'uncomfortable' and she said she doesn't wear any. I've yet to try it.....
Sorry, going βcommandoβ is not for me π. I wear good old M&S full briefs for running and Iβve never had any comfort issues πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ xxx
I hate another layer so commando for me. But the cut of the leggings makes a huge difference to comfort. If they are short from waist to crotch then that can be bloody painful π so I try to find leggings that are well made and are long in the body. That's why I love Sweaty Betty's π
Most decent leggings have an in-built gusset which to me means you don't need another layer, but it's a personal thing and everyone is different so go with what's comfortable for you.
I think the idea behind it is that the running pants are designed so they wick sweat away. So adding a layer of underwear is counterproductive. Or crispy underwear π
Commando for me for the most part. I have a pair of,egging that aren't comfortable commando so I bought some athletic knickers to wear then. In the winter, I'll often wear underwear just because it is bloody cold in the Canadian winters!
I'm a commando cyclist as well! I've got some runderwear knicks for running but find they do 'wedge' even though they're not supposed to. As others have said, some of my shorts/leggings would be ok commando but not others. I love that your club is going to experiment! I think I'll conduct my own....π
Just like GoGo_JoJo my shorts have built in briefs (very comfy) otherwise I'd run in big knockers and shorts. My friend showed me a thread about commandos chaffing so you really must report back!
I tried running commando when I first started my C25K. The gentleman area certainly didn't appreciate all the jiggling about. Hence the purchase of compression pants. I can't comment on the male cycling fraternity.ππ
