Slowly getting easier...just takes me so.loooong. I need to work on speed a bit I think.

91 minutes for 10k is ok...I don't mind being slow, just wish it took less time : )

Very well done. You are following the forum mantra of “slow and steady” and reducing risk of injury. Speed will increase over time.

I reduce risk of injury and get taken out by an insect bite lol

Ha ha. Who knew running was so dangerous?!

You should be so proud of yourself , 10k is amazing even if it does take you longer than you want it to. Well done you 😊

Thanks buddy. I am pleased with my progress, but there's always something we want to improve I guess

So impressed ! Well done ! Gives me motivation to read posts like this as I’m struggling to get to 10k and finding it hard going...😅 (I will get there if it kills me) 🤣 well not literally I hope.

Are you following the plan ? 10k still makes my legs ache though : )

RunRunRun13 profile image
RunRunRun13Graduate10 in reply to backintime

Yes I’m on Ju-Ju’s plan and have reached 8k so far (bit behind) but should be doing 9k this week.

backintime profile image
backintimeGraduate10 in reply to RunRunRun13

That's great ! Only 2k away, practically there lol. Today it was such a relief to make 8k, once I'm there I know I can do it. 2K is less than c25k w5r3 (I talk myself through to keep going)

RunRunRun13 profile image
RunRunRun13Graduate10 in reply to backintime

Thank you, I will keep that in mind if I get to another 8K 🤣 need to give myself a good kick up the !!! (Would if I had any energy left) lol.

backintime profile image
backintimeGraduate10 in reply to RunRunRun13

I really have to talk myself through the last 2k...anything that works

in reply to backintime

10K makes everyone's legs ache, it's a long way! You're doing amazing.. We're getting into serious territory now, it doesn't matter how long you've been running you will always respect 10k.

Thanks...I'm slowly following you...you just moved the goal post

in reply to backintime

Well, I'm moving those goal posts back. That was ridiculous, I'm aiming for 12-13 km next week, and If I make it i'll be VERY happy.

Well done! That's awesome! You're one of my role models (fitting it all in between working full time and being a single parent - my hubby works away during the week so run time has to fit around the boys) so this is so lovely to read.

I don't know how you you do it with 2 small children. My youngest is 13, I can leave them alone a bit

I often don't at the minute! Sunday morning or Monday early before he goes to work are my best choices 😆

I don't know how *you* do it working full time!

Well done backintime! I’m on 4.73 miles this week - I’m doing mine on my eBay treadmill . I’m slow but determined! I’m loving it! Keep saying I need to get outside again and am planning on joining my local park run - I do a holiday let changeover on Saturdays but from September I will have free Saturdays - so no excuses for me!!! Thank you c25k! Thank you ‘forum friends’ you all inspire me!

If it makes you feel any better, I did my first in 97 and second in 94. I so desperately want to do it in less than 85!

backintimeGraduate10 in reply to kpks

Well you already knocked 3 minutes off your time, that's huge !

Knittingrunner profile image
KnittingrunnerGraduate10

Well done. That’s a good time. I did my second 10k yesterday and although it was 2minutes faster than the first time it took longer than you! 94 minutes. But I’m happy with that. It felt a lot easier and I know the time will come down. Be patient it will happen. 🏃🏻‍♀️😊👏

backintime profile image
backintimeGraduate10 in reply to Knittingrunner

Patience has never been my strong point : ) but I am learning.

I figure at least the longer slower sessions is burning fat right ? Lol

That’s my thinking too!😉

Running 10k is an amazing achievement in itself no matter how long it takes. I can get too obsessed with times and it really doesn't do me any good. I like reminding myself of my first C25K runs in the sleet wearing whatever seemed warm & a bit sporty with my son's old trainers on and being desperate for the next walk section! Haven't we come a long way?!

backintime profile image
backintimeGraduate10 in reply to Slinkymalinki

Oh yes, I can now run a minute without thinking about it : ) It seemed so long that first time !

R4inbow profile image
R4inbow in reply to backintime

This is so true and easy to forget! That first C25K runs (in walking shoes, as that's all I had) where 1 minute was the longest time imaginable!

Cally73 profile image
Cally73

Well done for running 10k! That is my dream at the minute. Only on week one of Ju Ju’s plan so just ran 5.5k. I think at times we forget how much we achieved and give ourselves a hard time. Don’t know about you but I struggled at running for 60secs originally.

10k is 10k regardless of time! You are doing great 👍🏻

backintime profile image
backintimeGraduate10 in reply to Cally73

When I see the others posting they did 5.5k or 7k or 8k I think it's brilliant and amazing, I think I am just a bit harder on myself...

Juju's plan is brilliant, you'll soon be running 10k

molly1973 profile image

I echo everyone else’s words here: time is irrelevant really. The point is getting out there and enjoying the run. I am around 90 mins for the 10k and have only completed it twice: it really takes it out of me! I like 8k, though, and this tends to be my long run most of the time. Continue to enjoy it and these other things we seek (times, speed, for me weight loss) will come 🤞

backintime profile image
backintimeGraduate10 in reply to molly1973

Yes 8k is where I have to start convincing myself to carry on lol

grumpyoldgirl profile image

Great job backintime, definitely not a fluke! Your body has got so much stronger, to run that long and that far. The worst part of runs taking so long is finding the time to fit them into the day. I remember when I started, I could be home again before anyone realised I'd gone 😁

backintime profile image
backintimeGraduate10 in reply to grumpyoldgirl

Yes ! Exactly, now I disappear for nearly 2 hours (with warm up and warm down)

limberlou profile image

Just reading your post ( well done on your 10k times by the way) and was reminded of the conversation with my daughter last week. I was moaning I’d just been out for “ONLY 5k” and she reminded me of our week1 C25k run where I was gasping “ is it 60 seconds yet?” And she answered “ it’s only 19!!!”

Ive moved on now and did 18k last week- unbelievable to me still!! But I still have days when I cannot believe I’m a runner ... hadn’t run for 25+ years when I started C25k...and then only for couple of years at about 40 years old, never when I was younger or at school.

I have days where I only do 3 or 4K and go home again and some where I run for 2 1/2 hours. I think we are all amazing for just getting out there and running at all. And it DOES get easier and it DOES get faster ( a lot for some people but not me 🤣)

Keep up the good work

backintime profile image
backintimeGraduate10 in reply to limberlou

Yes, I should remind myself of week 1 run 1 more. How long can 60 seconds be ? Lol. Sometimes when I'm running I think I just did w5r3, or only week 7 to go...

Gwenllian1 profile image
Gwenllian1Graduate10

I'm really encouraged by your posts! I've just run for sixty minutes and that produces 7k so if I ever get to 10k my time will be about and a half. So it's great to see that you and others are running at about my pace. I tend to beat myself up for being so slow but I really shouldn't. I'm running for my health and fitness and I'm loving it. And look, I'm not the only one on the slow side! 😊

backintime profile image
backintimeGraduate10 in reply to Gwenllian1

That's great. Are you following a training plan ?

Gwenllian1 profile image
Gwenllian1Graduate10 in reply to backintime

I started c25k in January, graduated in April and have been working my way through jujus magic plan, running to time because I'm so slow that I thought I just didn't have time to do the distances. I've just done the first run of doing it again following the distance plan. I expect it will take me longer than nine weeks as I'm likely to repeat some bit in just about admiring to myself that is like to run 10k,even if I only do it once!

backintime profile image
backintimeGraduate10 in reply to Gwenllian1

I'm sure you can do it !

backintime profile image
backintimeGraduate10 in reply to Julia187

Can you swim or any other activity to get rid of the nervous energy ?

The 2nd was easier thzn the first, no faster, but physically less tiring, mentally less tiring and better recovery.
