Err... I don't really know what's just happened..And I don't really know where to post this... I'm posting it here. I decided to take the dog for a long walk, it's one of my favourite trails... It's the NNR trail in Hertfordshire, if you're ever near Broxbourne, it really is stunning.
Now I know it's 16k, so the intention was to just enjoy it, walk most of it, with a bit of running... I started to run, nice and slow and it just felt like a really nice pace, so I just kept on running. I did actually want to show you guys this run, so I stopped to take pictures, I also had the dog, which meant stopping to make sure she had a drink, and stopping and walking when there were horses and cattle about, but I think that's expected on these runs.
The last 2km were hard, and I'll admit it, If this forum wasn't here, I would have just stopped and been very happy with myself.. but I couldn't stop at 14km.. I thought "another 2k and you get your badge!" How bad is that? π
I don't think it was the most sensible thing to do, I can't feel my legs π³. But the truth is I'm really, really happy! π And I like being happy!
Here are the pictures! Happy running everyone. πββοΈπ
I have the badge! π€π Sqkr works fast! Yeah, I will post it on that forum as well, but I genuinely did take these pictures for some of the guys I know on here.π
Lovely pictures... well done and thatβs so impressive ! Your pooch looks just like mine...although mine doesnβt run with me (itβs a firm no from her) you will both sleep well tonight !!
Think Iβve decided long runs are not for me but will get to 10K one way or another ! π€£πββοΈ
Crumble? π Yeah, I can completely understand that. It's a LONG way. I was glad when it was over, and this is a really nice run... I'd really struggle to run that distance on the roads.π«
It happens sometimes! Well done. I know the area well, I lived near Cheshunt until last year, itβs lovely a lovely trail although I never ran it all. Pat on the back I think, congratulations.ππ
Thanks Katie! It really is beautiful, although I got lost about 3 times..And I've done it before π I don't think it's particularly well marked in some sections.
She did! Towards the end of the run, I was actually starting to think about whether this was too much for her, but then she shot off to chase a Squirrel, so she had plenty left in the tank. π
Yay, well done and well done pooch! I think it might be a few weeks before I get to 10 miles (3km to go!) and it will definitely not be with my 13 year old cocker spaniel, who spends more time going backwards to investigate interesting smells than going forward π
Thanks Sandie, I don't actually think I'm at this point in my running journey yet. My next long run will be 12-13k and I'll slowly build up. This was all a bit crazy.
Oh this dog loves to have a sniff, I couldn't run with her on a lead for long. She's a Cockapoo, I just run ahead and let her do her thing, and then she catches me up, or she goes ahead of me and points where we need to go π
Weβre about at the same stage then - I just need to get to 10 miles for the Great South Run on 20th October. Haha sounds familiar! Unfortunately, while he can still move pretty fast, our Ben is now completely deaf and has to be on a lead otherwise he poddles off in his own little world and we canβt get him back!
Iβll see you in Portsmouth in October then! Building up to 10miles, just not for the next week in 35Β° heat. Canβt stand the treadmill, so Iβm limited to 5k before I flake at the moment. Still 5k everyday canβt be bad. ππββοΈ
Yay! We must find out how many VRBs are doing the GSR and arrange a mass meet up πββοΈππ»ββοΈπββοΈππ»ββοΈπββοΈππ»ββοΈπββοΈππ»ββοΈ
Thanks Elisabeth, I'm training for a HM which has a different forum, they have a 10 mile badge on there. It's most of the same people who comment on here, so it's a good place. π
No, not at the moment but's something I'm looking at.. I'd love to do something like that. I think it would be really rewarding, even on this forum you see the positive change it brings.
Yes, definitely. And you know a lot already how it works. I think to help people train is so great. I am thinking of contacting the local running club and asking them if they are interested in beginners (or slow runners) and/or in the C25K.
Yeah, that's what running clubs are for. Most ask you to come down so they can talk and get to know you, find out what you want to achieve and what group or days would be best for you. Usually they have someone you can email, they're very friendly. Do it! Exciting. π
Love this!!! Well done to you. I know exactly what you mean about having this group for support and also pushing yourself just that little bit further. I'm nowhere near 16k (hopefully one day) but I've been off for 5 weeks, for no particular reason, lack of motivation mainly. Anyway I've just got back on it and managed a 5k Monday and then again today, although for some reason today's run was harder. Posts like this really inspire me so thank you for posting it
It's a great community isn't it? Good for you for getting beck out there! Straight back into running 5k as well is very impressive. In C25K, I always thought the second run of the week was the hardest. I think your legs are still recovering from the first run, so it's normal. Good luck Mdaw and welcome back!
After going on couple long jog/walks like that, my labβs Achillesβ tendons partially detached !! Seriously bad news. Just a heads up for you.. But well done on your achievement
Wow! Very well done you! That looks like a lovely trail. It was obviously one of those runs where everything comes together and feels right. Thanks for sharing & inspiring. π
Oho! Good to know, clubber! There's also one at Dunstable downs I'd like to try one day. We'll have to confer, there are a few parkruns within striking distance.
I think Dunstable downs is actually closer to me! I'm going to be incredibly busy in August though, so I'm looking at September.. I'd like to do the Wendover Woods Parkrun as well. Pooch on tour.
Roll on September, pooch will be glad of the rest π CP2 has mentioned Wendover, I'm still looking at it out of the corner of one eye. With suspicion. π
She's not actually my pooch, I'm her Dogfather, I have to look after her when her owner is away, which is quite often. There's dog food in my house, a dog bed, toys... But she's not mine.
Still not right but definitely feels like I'm getting there. Now starting to worry about how much fitness I'm losing and whether I'll have forgotten how to run by the time I'm back to normal...
Well it's good to hear it's improving! I think you'll be surprised what you can still do. Even if you have lost some fitness, you'll find it a lot easier to get it back.
Congratulations Clubberlang! 10 miles done and dusted and it does look lovely too. I bet pooch loved it as much as you. Another badge to keep you going until HM. ππββοΈππ»ππ»
Cheers Sask, yes I love this trail because it's popular in parts, but the majority is unused, probably because of the distance, you're out there on your own, feels like it's mine. It has some truly stunning places.
