Hills....😖

Fought the bed gremlins and got up out of my warm comfy bed for this mornings run. Week 2 of my 10K program. I live in a hilly area and now I’m running for longer and further, avoiding the hills is becoming difficult. I struggle mentally with circuits, can’t deal with running past the finish point and repeating a lap. So today was hilly...nowhere near as bad as my C25k hill drama (hideous experience) but still, tricky. I read a lot about hills after my last drama and so tried to shorten my stride and slow right down and I got up them all. I have to be careful because I find myself “tackling” the hills in that I run at them and almost end up trying to go faster than on the flat! Discipline is the key.

How does everyone else tackle those hills?

Just the same. Shorter steps, regulate breathing, learn to enjoy the sensation. Lots of people pay a fortune to go to gym and get out of breath (some of them!). We get it for free.

Well it's free if you don't consider the expensive shoe habit.

Well done you. I started doing hills in wk9 of c25k . I find that slowing down concentrating on breathing and keeping my body tall helps 😊

Small steps and I try to avoid looking up at the top of the hill, I find it just puts me off if I can see exactly how much further is left to climb! 😂 I also try really hard to remember that uphill running is really good for me...

Agreed! Lol. I keep my head down and try to keep on plodding on. I think they feel slightly easier...only slightly. It certainly makes the smaller pulls you come across feel less bothersome!
