7k, feeling good!

I am still struggling for the first 5mins of every run; basically I feel like giving up. I just keep telling myself I can make it a shorter run. Then I sort my breathing out, find a pace and get comfortable. I missed one of my way markers so didn't realise I had reached 3k, I found a new bridge along the canal. I turned round and went back, I was feeling so good I extend the run and reached 7k. This is my first time prior to this my furthest was 5.5k. I'm feeling rather pleased with myself ๐Ÿ™‚

Very well done ! I make myself not give up before c25k w5r3...20 mins. Today the first 3k was horrible !

Itโ€™s called the toxic 10. Basically it takes a while for your body to adapt to the fact youโ€™ve started running. Your brain realises and tells your body to up the heart rate, breathing etc but itโ€™s delayed. So totally normal. Well done. You can overcome this by doing a couple of hundred meters warm up before hand and then starting your run a minute or two later. Or just realise itโ€™ll sort itself out soon enough ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ

Thanks, that explains a lot. I always walk for about 5 minutes before starting to run. Nice to know I'm not alone!

You should always warm up and do at least a five minutes brisk walk as you did when you did the C25k programme Some peeps take a whole lot longer to warm up. It takes me at least 16 minutes to feel right.

Start very slowly and ease into the run. Maybe youโ€™re going too quick

Also, have fun. Relax and enjoy it ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ‘

I get the 'toxic ten' too, I feel all pathetic as I start to run but then after a few minutes it feels easier. Thank you for explaining this.

This is really common. Funnily enough if you do a solid warmup (I.e, at least 10 minutes of gentle jogging) it will really help you. Take a 5 minute break after this and you should find it much easier. I always thought that I was wasting energy doing warmups in the early days but itโ€™s not the case. A running watch with anHR monitor will help. I jog until it starts to jump high and then I keep going until it starts to settle back down again. Thatโ€™s usually enough to get the blood flowing through the leg muscles and prepare your body for whatโ€™s coming. Good luck with it!

Well done. The first few minutes are always the worst for me too. But once I understood that I learned to be patient and wait for the body to relax into the run. Just donโ€™t pressure yourself and donโ€™t give up!

Totally the same, almost every time. First few k I just feel yak and want to give up. Well done

Great stuff! The real bugger is when youโ€™re running uphill for your Toxic Ten. The give-up voices shout twice as loud.

So far only running along the canal, nice and flat. Not sure about scary hills!

I make sure the first kilometer I don't go over 80 percent of my maximum heart rate.

I do Japanese slow jogging for the first 5-10 minutes. That breaks me in gently. After that, I can up my pace a little (still not very fast, by any means!).

Youโ€™re doing fantastic Evol I had to change the way I was running as I was burning out on the hills now Iโ€™ve talked to myself and slow down on park run days now ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‰ just start of nice and slow and build your pace up slowly and find that comfy pace because youโ€™re doing distance and youโ€™re doing fantastic I set my watch to 1k markers so every time I do a 1k it tells me also the total Iโ€™ve done so maybe set your watch up for that if you already havenโ€™t done so ๐Ÿ˜‰ and you should be so proud and happy with yourself well done you ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ†๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘xx

Thanks kevtrev. My watch does go off at each 1k sometimes I miss it, then run extra. As I'm only going along the canal no hills for me! This is something that scares me about a park run, not knowing what to expect.

You will be fine just take it easy as a new course can be easy or hard and your very welcome ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜Š
