I am still struggling for the first 5mins of every run; basically I feel like giving up. I just keep telling myself I can make it a shorter run. Then I sort my breathing out, find a pace and get comfortable. I missed one of my way markers so didn't realise I had reached 3k, I found a new bridge along the canal. I turned round and went back, I was feeling so good I extend the run and reached 7k. This is my first time prior to this my furthest was 5.5k. I'm feeling rather pleased with myself ๐
7k, feeling good!: I am still struggling for... - Bridge to 10K
7k, feeling good!
Very well done ! I make myself not give up before c25k w5r3...20 mins. Today the first 3k was horrible !
Itโs called the toxic 10. Basically it takes a while for your body to adapt to the fact youโve started running. Your brain realises and tells your body to up the heart rate, breathing etc but itโs delayed. So totally normal. Well done. You can overcome this by doing a couple of hundred meters warm up before hand and then starting your run a minute or two later. Or just realise itโll sort itself out soon enough ๐๐ฝ
Thanks, that explains a lot. I always walk for about 5 minutes before starting to run. Nice to know I'm not alone!
You should always warm up and do at least a five minutes brisk walk as you did when you did the C25k programme Some peeps take a whole lot longer to warm up. It takes me at least 16 minutes to feel right.
Start very slowly and ease into the run. Maybe youโre going too quick
Also, have fun. Relax and enjoy it ๐๐
This is really common. Funnily enough if you do a solid warmup (I.e, at least 10 minutes of gentle jogging) it will really help you. Take a 5 minute break after this and you should find it much easier. I always thought that I was wasting energy doing warmups in the early days but itโs not the case. A running watch with anHR monitor will help. I jog until it starts to jump high and then I keep going until it starts to settle back down again. Thatโs usually enough to get the blood flowing through the leg muscles and prepare your body for whatโs coming. Good luck with it!
Well done. The first few minutes are always the worst for me too. But once I understood that I learned to be patient and wait for the body to relax into the run. Just donโt pressure yourself and donโt give up!
Totally the same, almost every time. First few k I just feel yak and want to give up. Well done
Great stuff! The real bugger is when youโre running uphill for your Toxic Ten. The give-up voices shout twice as loud.
I make sure the first kilometer I don't go over 80 percent of my maximum heart rate.
I do Japanese slow jogging for the first 5-10 minutes. That breaks me in gently. After that, I can up my pace a little (still not very fast, by any means!).
Youโre doing fantastic Evol I had to change the way I was running as I was burning out on the hills now Iโve talked to myself and slow down on park run days now ๐ ๐ just start of nice and slow and build your pace up slowly and find that comfy pace because youโre doing distance and youโre doing fantastic I set my watch to 1k markers so every time I do a 1k it tells me also the total Iโve done so maybe set your watch up for that if you already havenโt done so ๐ and you should be so proud and happy with yourself well done you ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐๐๐๐๐xx
Thanks kevtrev. My watch does go off at each 1k sometimes I miss it, then run extra. As I'm only going along the canal no hills for me! This is something that scares me about a park run, not knowing what to expect.
