...and like a crazy person, I’ve just been running in it. Phew, it’s hot out there – even at sunrise.

Be VERY careful if you run today. It will be cooler tomorrow, so maybe run then instead.

Stay safe.

Thanks Stephen, you did well to run today... I haven't been since Monday, hopefully will go tomorrow when things have cooled down a little.

Thanks. Yes, wait if you can.

Well done you...too warm here already... thanks for reminding folk... the runs wait.. as ever:)

Thanks, Floss. Hope all’s OK with you.

Getting there...thank you..back up to 8K after a very slow return from the IC...but as ever, for me, slow is just fine..and with this weather... perfect:)

Good morning Floss, glad that you are back up to 8K after being on the IC, I ran yesterday run 3 of week 6 C25K as a practice run for my second park run this Saturday, it was the warmest weather I have ran in, even before 9 am the temperature was almost 20C.

I am not sure if I will run on Saturday morning as the weather forecast is for heavy thundery rain where the park run is being held, it's not as if I live nearby where the run is, if I get soaked during a run, I have a 50 minute bus ride home, it's not very comfortable sitting in a soaking wet T-shirt and shorts for 50 minutes, hence the doubts about whether I will be running this Saturday, hopefully, the rain will stay off and I will be able to run.

Granspeed profile image
GranspeedGraduate10 in reply toAlMorr

Phew, that would be dedication! 😮 Skip that one if the forecast doesn’t improve! You could run 5K near home: a Virtual Parkrun without the soggy bus ride. 👍

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply toGranspeed

If its dry where I live but rain where the park run is I certainly will run a 'virtual 5K park run' starting at 9.30, (9.30 start for P runs in Scotland and N. Ireland, 9 in England and Wales.)

Timely post Stephen. Thank you. 👍

I ran yesterday knowing today would be worse. I think tomorrow is supposed to be much fresher so yes, avoiding today would be a good idea. Even now at 7am it’s a very humid 19 degrees here. 🥵

Hi CC. Glad to see you are much more sensible than me!

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply toStephen_UK

Not sure about that Stephen, yesterday’s run was my hilliest route and it was baking even early on. Not sure why I didn’t pick a flat one - oh, it’s because I’m nuts that’s why! 🤦‍♀️ 😅

I think we all are.

Well done on completing a run in this heat! I ran yesterday and it was soooooo hard! 😫

Stephen_UK profile image
Stephen_UKGraduate10 in reply toElisabetta

Thanks, Elisabetta. Yes, it is a lot harder in the heat, isn’t it?

Elisabetta profile image
Elisabetta in reply toStephen_UK

I underestimated how hard it would be! Like running through treacle 😫🏃‍♂️

Stephen_UK profile image
Stephen_UKGraduate10 in reply toElisabetta

Treacle running is not fun. But I’m hoping it’s all “useful experience”...

JonathanP profile image

Yes my 8k at 5.30 this morning was rather warm!☀️🔥

Stephen_UK profile image
Stephen_UKGraduate10 in reply toJonathanP

Well done with that. Hope you can cool down now.

JonathanP profile image

Thanks - a cool shower did the job!

Jell6 profile image

🥵🥵🥵🥵couldn't agree more Stephen, I am still sweating and I've been in for 45 minutes, I'll need another shower I think ( dreaming of cold crispy mornings 💭❄❄)

Stephen_UK profile image
Stephen_UKGraduate10 in reply toJell6

Ah! Cold, crispy mornings. Can’t wait!

backintime profile image
backintimeGraduate10

well done for getting your run in even with this heat!

Today is supposed to be 42° here, I have never been happier with my cool cool basement :D

Stephen_UK profile image
Stephen_UKGraduate10 in reply tobackintime

Thank you. 42?! That’s just silly. I’d stay in that basement if I were you!

backintime profile image
backintimeGraduate10 in reply toStephen_UK

I actually quite like feeling warm for once, I always feel cold, except when running. Will up my water intake though today, I think I will gently perspire during my run ;)

Stephen_UK profile image
Stephen_UKGraduate10 in reply tobackintime

Perspire?! Surely not. You mean ‘glow’, right?

backintime profile image
backintimeGraduate10 in reply toStephen_UK

no, I think today I may perspire - given the record temperatures it may be allowed for women to perspire today...

my poor neighbour is 7 months pregnant - I remember being pregnant in the 2003 heatwave with my daughter - I feel so sorry for her with her own internal heater lol

Stephen_UK profile image
Stephen_UKGraduate10 in reply tobackintime

It must be so rough being heavily pregnant in this weather. Time to head to the nearest pool and just stay there. I also worry for extra-furry cats and dogs. Poor things can’t just take off their coats.

backintime profile image
backintimeGraduate10 in reply toStephen_UK

you can buy cooling blankets for them, but mine just move around the floor (I have tiled floor) and find the next cool spot :D

I will turn the hose on them later if they want to play in the spray

Stephen_UK profile image
Stephen_UKGraduate10 in reply tobackintime

Ah, what a treat. I could do with some of the same treatment.

backintime profile image
backintimeGraduate10 in reply toStephen_UK

Buy a spray bottle for plants and fill it with water and set it to mist

very refreshing and cheaper than most cooling things

Granspeed profile image
GranspeedGraduate10 in reply tobackintime

😄 This took me back in time indeed, to waiting for an imminent baby in a heatwave! She arrived August 20 and has loved hot weather all her life. Maybe there’s a connection? 🤣

backintime profile image
backintimeGraduate10 in reply toGranspeed

Indeed, my daughter loves the heat

my youngest not so much, but he was born in 2006, in May, not so hot then :)

😄

Knittingrunner profile image
KnittingrunnerGraduate10

Looking forward to running in the rain at Parkrun instead I think 🏃🏻‍♀️😂

Stephen_UK profile image
Stephen_UKGraduate10 in reply toKnittingrunner

That would be lovely. Let’s pray to the run gods for a light drizzle!

Knittingrunner profile image
KnittingrunnerGraduate10 in reply toStephen_UK

According to the BBC weather we have rain Saturday morning here in Southend-on-Sea 🤞

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10

No runs for us today- I’ve even cancelled my Pilates as there’s no air con in the studio and it’s hot enough on a normal summer day. Hydration, hydration and it might be our first dip in the sea then back to shade.

Stephen_UK profile image
Stephen_UKGraduate10 in reply toDexy5

Very, very wise. Enjoy that dip.

Julia187 profile image
Julia187Graduate10

I also ran yesterday as today looked ridiculous, will run tomorrow too, have upped my water intake too.

Stephen_UK profile image
Stephen_UKGraduate10 in reply toJulia187

That’s sensible. It IS ridiculous out there. And it’s not even 9am.

Granspeed profile image
GranspeedGraduate10

Nope, not running anywhere today. Takes me back to living in California back when we had small children - everything necessary done by 9 a.m. and all the blinds down and paddling pool in the shade.... 😊. So different from our usual sun-seeking in the UK back then.

RunRunRun13 profile image
RunRunRun13Graduate10

Thanks Stephen and I’m impressed ! I can’t even run early in this humidity so waiting for cooler days....I can just about walk in it ! 😂😅🏃‍♀️

Stephen_UK profile image
Stephen_UKGraduate10 in reply toRunRunRun13

Thanks, RRR. For me it’s always fine as long as there’s a shower at the end of it!

JaoJao profile image
JaoJaoGraduate10

I ran at the same time too! It was comfortable but I couldn’t have gone any time later that’s for sure!

Stephen_UK profile image
Stephen_UKGraduate10 in reply toJaoJao

Well done with that. Hope you can stay cool for the rest of the day.

JaoJao profile image
JaoJaoGraduate10 in reply toStephen_UK

I am trying.

JaoJao profile image
JaoJaoGraduate10 in reply toStephen_UK

Is there a Parkrun thread for this week?

Stephen_UK profile image
Stephen_UKGraduate10 in reply toJaoJao

Not sure, but if you start it too early it tends to sink down the pages before the day itself. I am predicting you are up for it, JaoJao? I am definitely doing it this week, whatever the weather.

JaoJao profile image
JaoJaoGraduate10 in reply toStephen_UK

Oh absolutely. And it will be cooler this Saturday morning! I’m looking to get my PB streak back after a dip last week. It will be my 8th! Yay! You?

Stephen_UK profile image
Stephen_UKGraduate10 in reply toJaoJao

Yes, can’t wait. Will be my seventh. Good luck on the PB.

I ran on Tuesday evening with a running group, everyone struggled. Gratefully we run along a promenade, my treat at the end of it was to dive into the sea....a beatiful sunset swim.

Sounds lovely!

Anren profile image

Nice one. I ran too got up at 6am to do a 10k, was actually quite nice then. :D

I was slow though as the ground is so dry now it's all sharp rocks/gravel and tree roots and I didn't want to trip.
