LonG Term IC

I've been on the IC (feeling very sorry for myself) for 4 months now due to suspected High Hamstring tendonopathy. I say suspected, I'm waiting for a date for a scan to show me exactly what the problem is.

Has anyone else been forced to take a long break from running and how do you cope? I have to say not very well in my case....running was a complete mental release for me and without it I feeling particularly low. I'm not keen on any other exercise so I'm doing the exercises recommended by the sports physio - works for a while then I end up back at square one for no obvious reason.

Any tips to get me through?

Ta

Upper body exercises...new route planning for your come back...retail running therapy...and knowing the runs will always wait...Heal well...it is the waiting for tests and results that drive us loopy..I have had up to 12 weeks off...and more!

Many of us have been there. I’ve had about 3 months off once and I understand your frustration but there are peeps here who’ve been off longer.

Keep as active as you can given your limitations and keep coming on here as it really does help you think you’re still a runner. The roads will wait, you will recover and you will get back to it again.

Mental strength is essential for runners and this is a test. Think of it as training for your future runs!

Good luck with your treatment plan and let us know how you get on.

And keep the faith. Always 🙂

Good advice. Chin up and carry on is the mantra I'm trying to follow.

Plus my husband has just started C25k so I'm running vicariously through him :-)

There you go. All the best and keep strong. You can do it.

I highly recommend Caroline Jordan's hurt foot fitness videos. She does non weight bearing full body and chair based workouts which I'm sure you could do. I'm not good with enforced inaction and just putting some lycra on and doing 'something' rather than nothing really helped my mental state although I only had to have 6 weeks off.

Doing anything and everything you still can really does help 👍🏻

Thanks. I'll take a look although chair based may not be for me as it's the sitting for long periods that aggravates my hamstring so it literally becomes a pain in the butt!

But all advice gratefully received...like you I'd rather be doing something rather than nothing :-)

Try her floor based workouts in that case 👍🏻 good luck!
