This is absolutely not how I intended celebrating today.

Twelve months ago today I suffered a heart attack which led to me finding the joys and benefits of running.

So many positives. Completing C25K; running 10k; running 8 miles; feeling fitter than ever and really benefiting from mental health improvement as well as having the support of the great people on this forum.

This morning I cannot move! I am in bed. For some reason my back has "gone" and I am in agony when I try to move.

This is not running related I don't think but it has certainly stopped me from running. No idea how long for but that 10 miles was, I thought, going to be achieved in the next two weeks 😀.

Throw in a loss of balance and hearing loss I'm in a bit of a mess.

Keep running everyone. Have fun . Hopefully this us just a short interruption πŸ‘

So sorry about your back Runforjoy, so flustrating that your future plans for running, including that 10 miles run will have to be put back, hopefully for not too long, just rest as much as you can, I hope you can get back to running not too long in the future.

in reply to AlMorr

Thanks Al.

Yours is such a positive story. This is just a setback. Be patient, you know you can pick it up again - your fitness levels have so improved. πŸ‘

in reply to Solor

Thank you Solor. I would never in a million years believe when I started C25K that I would still be running a year later .... and relishing both the mental and physical challenges and beating those pesky gremlins πŸ˜†πŸ‘

That doesn’t sound good. The hearing loss would cause a loss of balance but do you know what has caused the hearing loss and back pain? Are they connected?

in reply to Irishprincess

Hi IP. I suspect they are independent and just bad luck to happen at the same time. My hearing loss i hope is a build up of wax although the usual treatments haven't worked so far. I have paid for a treatment tomorrow so we shall see.

I've not had back issues since I have been running and so hoped the running had put previous back problems to bed so to speak. Clearly wrong.

I am sort of semi mobile now ..... just. Maybe I can get out for a walk in a few days (hopefully) - I'm going insane resting at the moment.

IrishprincessGraduate10 in reply to

Semi-mobile is better than bed-ridden! Fingers crossed that rest will do the trick for you 🀞Just think of it as training for the body.

I must say that I’ve had more back injuries over the years of running than anything but I got them all from gardening and lifting heavy pots, never from actual running.

I wish you well and a quick recovery.

Awe sending healing vibes, that's so rotten, hopefully it will right itself very soon! You'll be back ..take care πŸ€—

Thanks sparky66. Fingers crossed 🀞.

Oh no, I'm so sorry. Runs will be waiting for you once you recover. I wonder if it is running related, it would be worth trying to see a physio or doctor. Many of us have had periods on the IC and whilst it's frustrating, I'm sure you'll be back soon!

Take care. πŸ€—

in reply to Roxdog

Thanks Roxdog. Hopefully my ears will be sorted tomorrow and my back will get better in a few days. Fingers 🀞

So sorry to hear this !I hope it's sorted soon .

Any chance of seeing a sports physio ?

Unfortunately my first setback came a week or 2 before what was going to be a 10 mile .

They weren't running related setbacks but certainly impacted my progress.

But, I'll get there one day and so will you !

It will still be there when you are ready .

The timeframe is irrelevant.

Hope you are sorted soon !

in reply to Instructor57

Thank you Instructor57. I do see a good sports physio when the need arises. In the past that has been neck pain due to poor posture.

Hopefully by the end of the week I will be able to do a gentle jog.

Saw that you’ve just landed on the IC as I managed to get off it! So thought I’d wish you well on your thread as well. So forgive the double posting.

Hope your back recovers! In Germany, being landed with a sudden onslaught of a bad back was called β€œHexenschuss”, or translated literally β€œshot by a witch” πŸ§™

So hopefully the spell gets lifted soon! (There it was known to often happen after a night of booze and partying …. 🀣🀣🀣)

Sending you lots of get well wishes! πŸ€•

in reply to CBDB

Brilliant. After several beers my basic German does in fact turn into the most perfect kâlsch dialect 🀣🀣🀣🀣 🍺

Oh Runforjoy! Clearly not at all part of your planned script. Here's to a swift recovery. I hadn't realised that you had a heart attack less tan a year ago. What an amazingly speedy journey after such an health ordeal.

in reply to over61andstilltrying

It certainly wasn't part of the script 🀣. We shall consider it to be one of lifes hurdles to be overcome. Oh yes.

Oh Alan, so sorry to hear this, sounds really nasty. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery - and do get yourself checked out if necessary.

in reply to Cmoi

I'm hoping to be back out in the not too distant future Cmoi. I have a 10 mile goal to achieve 😊

I managed about 30 short steps to the end of the driveway earlier so that is a good start. πŸ₯³

Ouch ouch ouch - what a pain, literally and figuratively RFJ. Your 10 miler will still be there for you, so rest up, get sorted and get back out there when you’re good and ready. Hope it’s sooner rather than later. 🀞🀞🀞

Thank you OBK. I hope so too as I have 10 miles to run. Although 10 metres would be a challenge this morning ☹

Remember to take it easy, you sound like the sort of person who gets impatient having to slow down. Maybe treat it as a challenge - how few steps can I do? etc. Look after yourself and you'll come back stronger than ever πŸ˜‰

Me . ..... impatient ....... πŸ€”?

Oh, ok then ...... 🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣

So frustrating!!!But I bet 12 months ago the thought of running 10 miles-ever- was the last thing on your mind!

I hope your back improves soon so you can get back to it.

I totally get the hearing/ balance thing.I had similar starting before Christmas it really knocked my desire/ability to run but now following treatment (3 attempts at microsuction-yuck-but amazing!!) I am back to it.

Hope you will back up and running soon.

in reply to Week7

Thank you. I'm hoping my hearing and balance can be sorted today πŸ™πŸ€ž

I also think I was being overly optimistic hoping my back would sort itself overnight. It didn't πŸ€”

Watched a nature program where ear worms were used to clear ears!! They went in thin and had to be yanked out backwards....fat! Anything sounds better than that. What a frustrating waking up you had yesterday Runforjoy, so hoping you will be doing just that soon.

Thank you Mormor1. You have turned my stomach with that ear cleaning episode 🀒 🀣

Oh my goodness that sounds awful! What bad luck 😬

Our backs can β€˜go’ for all sorts of reasons. Mine conked due to stress πŸ™

You’ve a period of enforced rest now til you can work through your back problem. It can be agony though and I feel for you I really do. If slipped disc gets ruled out that’s good news but it can take several weeks to recover.

Loss of hearing and balance sounds strange, if sudden. Coincidental to your back ? Sounds like one for the doc if that’s an option these days 😐

I wish you a speedy return to running. Meanwhile if you can sleep then that’s going to be a bonus. Good luck πŸ™‚πŸ’ͺπŸ‘

in reply to misswobble

Bless you and thank you misswobble. I have seen lots of people running πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ down the street today in the sunshine. Soo jealous 😩😭

Oh no! I think we’re going to need a bigger IC πŸ›‹! I’m just on my weekly catch up of posts from my end of the couch and didn’t realise you and a few others had come to join me. As this is a few days on from when you wrote your post, I hope you are beginning to feel a little better?

in reply to

Thank you Delly-dot. That made me smile everyone coming to join you on the IC πŸ˜ƒ. I'm still struggling but at least I am mobile now which I am very grateful for. I can at least make tea and fetch the jam doughnuts - oh yes.

in reply to DylanTheRabbit

Thank you DTR. I am mobile now which is a relief. I am trying to do my dynamic stretches - very slowly - to gauge what I can and can't do with regards to improvements.

If I were to have a guesstimate timeline I would think I could get out there in another 1-2 weeks 🀞
