Oh dear. Two weeks in to Ju-Ju magic and was going well untill I find I have a mild groin strain. This injury is a first time for me and I suspect I went too far too fast. I am fearful of turning a mild injury in to a more longer term one (at my age) so will try as hard as possible not to run for 2 or 3 weeks. Hope that's all it needs and then I think I'll need a longer 10k plan to avoid this in future. Shame because I was enjoying being part of the Ju-Ju magic VRC. But as my virtual running coach says, running is like life, expect setbacks, brush yourself off, reset and go again. I'm not giving up! Any advice re the injury or recovery gratefully received
Boring IC post: Oh dear. Two weeks in to Ju-Ju... - Bridge to 10K
Boring IC post
Your doing the sensible thing to avoid the risk of longer term injury! After my short run in juju week 3 last week I felt my hamstring tightening! That and an ongoing grumbly ankle made me decide to take this week off! Going to start up again at parkrun on Saturday! As the saying goes prevention is better than cure, so rest up and come back stronger 👍
sorry no specific advice.... but rest sounds good. take it easy and you'll be back soon
Sorry to hear this stevie, but allowing the body to recover is a good plan. Do keep posting on here though because feedback on injuries is just as important as running tales. Some people have increased by adding half km each week instead of 1km, so just work out what’s right for you and listen to your body.
Hi steviej99, ic posts are not boring to me! I acquired a hamstring injury (6th Feb) for no apparent (to me) reason and have had an on off, on off, on off relationship with the ic since. All part of the running journey and the learning process. I'm still taking things very gently and slowly.
Congratulations on all that you have achieved so far! And I do hope your encounter with the ic will be brief.
Bummer! Definitely doing the right thing steviej. I am convinced that the injury risk is cyclical. We get to a point in trying something new where over a period the effort required is more than the system is ready take at that time. Footballers have expensive kit to flag up issues like this. Us mere mortals have to make do with being careful not to overdo it. I am in a good patch at the minute, but my injury streak is very recent. I did my 7k today, but I am going to take 2 days off before my next run to give things time to settle down. Once burned! Hope it feels better quickly.
Thanks Beachcomber. The cyclical injury risk is very interesting. It's hard when your mind thinks your 22 but your body is 40 years older than that! I need to rethink my exercise/rest strategy and not be over ambitious when increasing the workload. When I trained for 10k about 12 years ago, I remember there being occasional 1 week rest breaks. This seems sensible and something I will now introduce when I start trading again
I am 67 but in my head I am 20 !!😂
Oh no, sorry to read this Stevie!!
There's no way we'd let you give up, but I think you are very sensible to take a break. Keep yourself mobile with walks and any other gentle exercise you enjoy - swimming is the one I like to recommend, although I'd think not breast stroke with a groin strain.
Wishing you a speedy recovery xxx
From another loitering unwillingly on the injury couch😩, yes it is frustrating but if you're sensible now you will be back out there in a few weeks and will soon get back to where you were. A niggle is one thing but with any significant injury it pays to take your time and not come back too soon. Fingers crossed for you.
Thanks Sandra, same to you."Athletes" get injured. It's how we deal with it that's important.😊
How's the recovery going?
Thanks for asking Katnap. It's slow. Seemed to be improving every day but today for some reason seems a bit worse. But when I checked it's only been 6 days. I think realistically a mild groin strain is 2 to 3 weeks so I better be patient. Hopefully this time next week will be more positive
Do a gentle jogette at near walking speed. If it still hurts after 10 minutes then walk back. I had a thigh strain before a 10k race! Grrrr. Rested a week before. The first 15 minutes or so I was hobbling along but eventually it became bearable. I finished feeling good but I was hobbling again about 5 minutes later and had to keep moving to ease the pain.
So I definitely feel for you! Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery 🏃
