One short year ago (or just over), I had just finished C25K and couldn't quite run 5k in 30 minutes. Since this time I have done five 10k "races" and obtained the required bling!
The 10ks were "ok" but not easy, and on the last one, achieved a PB by taking 4 minutes of my previous best, so I am now down to 1min 12.
However, I have noticed recently that I can happily knock out a 5k without thinking about it by just going for a run, and I have just started a HM plan on Garmin with Jeff Galloway (run-walk-run) and have done easy 8k's this weekend and last, in just over an hour (currently on week 5)
So now I'm starting to think that "just popping out for a run" is turning into an 8-10k jaunt around my town and lanes!!
Is it possible that 10k is becoming the new 5k?

Love this post! And your attitude to distance just shows how far you have come, buddy. Funnily enough, I have been reflecting on this myself since running longer distances. I noticed I no longer bat an eyelid at 5k, and look forward to it as an easy run. I don’t find 10k that easy, still, but never doubt my ability to manage it - and that’s progress! Back in the day I remember being quite terrified of running 5km! Coming up for my 2 year runniversary in August, never once though I would still be running 2 years on - and loving it. Keep up the good work. 👍😁
Exactly, it’s all a bit strange really lol. Mrs LL asked me before Ieft how long i’d be - “not to long, about an hour” I said! Two years ago it would have taken me an hour to get over saying it!!!
Love this Mitch. So true. My daughter said to me the other day "how far did you run today?" I said "not far today just 7k" 🤣 Not sure how or when 7k became not very far! I can't imagine being without running now. I haven't taken the next step to an HM just yet but it's nice that 10k is quite doable these days 🤗
Haha - I have had that same conversation a few times. Still feels like a mental barrier to thinking about longer than 10k - but we’ll deal with that when we get there! 👍
I always say I'm just going for a 5k but then I end up running longer. My usual circular route is 7k and I used to run the 5k and use the 2k as I cool down walk. Then one day I though that I could get home quicker if I just ran it all, so I did. Not got to 10k yet, only 8k but I'm sure it won't be long, just need a longer route.
