Running Resolution Update

So my resolution of sticking to running 3x a week during the summer term has (perhaps predictably) gone horribly wrong in the last fortnight.

A sore hip after a Sunday 10k meant resting for almost a week but I did manage to squeeze in a 5k after work run the following Friday (hip still a bit sore).

Then had a weekend filled with events in honour of some visiting South African teachers and then 5 days last week at an outdoor learning centre on the Welsh Borders with a classful of Year 6 children. Decided not to run (based on the sore hip though the very late nights and early mornings didn't make it an attractive proposition either) but was kept active with a round of caving, climbing, canoeing, high ropes challenges and mountain walking. Then yesterday was the school's summer fair (in scorching sun).

Cut to this morning and my first run in 9 days (and only my second in the last fortnight) - bit of a 5k plod, but felt marvellous all the same and the hip was good.

There are now 3 weeks and 3 days of the summer term left so I'm resetting the resolution this week and aiming to run on Tuesday , Thursday and Sunday . Will definitely need the breaks as I plough through 200 reports ๐Ÿ˜ฑ.

Hope you're all running cool in this hot weather!

Wow. If you are caving, climbing, canoeing and mountain walking, you can surely miss a run or two?! I am exhausted just reading this post.

I was only having to keep up with 11 year old. So not much skill but lots of energy ๐Ÿ˜‚

I think you're doing brilliantly! ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ‘School trips leave me wiped out let alone the reports and end of summer term mayhem! The revolting cold that the little cherubs gave me turned into a chest infection with bad asthma and high blood pressure due to stress so I ended up at home for a few days & haven't run for 2 weeks. โ˜น๏ธ

Just keep squeezing those runs in and making them just as important as all the other tasks on your 'To Do' list! X

Oh no! Hope you're feeling better. This summer term is the worst. Too much to do on top of 9 months of slogging through the year.

Make sure you're looking after yourself. Xx

Lovely to read that you felt marvellous and that your hip was good too. Well done on resetting the resolution, I'm sure with the few weeks that you have had maintaining three runs per week was just not viable. Happy running to you and may the last 3ยฝ weeks pass in the very best way possible. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’

Counting down to the end of term now - but definitely hoping still to get some running in ๐Ÿ˜Š

Good grief! You might not have been running but you werenโ€™t sitting on your bum filing your nails, were you?

The run must have felt like such a relief after all that!

Such a relief to be out there ALONE in my own head! Love the kids - but residentials are always a bit full on when you're on call 24/7. And I always seem to find muscles I'd forgotten existed with all the activities.

Such a luxury to run through the countryside with no one around ๐Ÿ˜Š.

Crikey Debs, sounds like you're doing just fine! I really don't miss summer terms especially the parents who think you're having a lovely time winding down to end of term ๐Ÿ˜‚ Good luck with the reset, and with those pesky reports.

You are one busy woman! And very active too, so no need to beat yourself for not managing the 3 runs a week. Maybe leave that for when you are on school hols. ๐Ÿ‘

Re: sore hip. Do you know the cause? I had a grumbly hip for months, but a physio advised I strengthen my glute medius muscles. After a few weeks of strength work I have not had a grumble since! I am a new convert to targeted strength training!

So glad you had a good run today. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Can't wait for the holidays!

Not sure about the hip. Not had any problems up to now since the first couple of weeks of C25K when absolutely everything ached! But it came on following a run through quite bumpy countryside - so assumed I'd jarred it somehow.

Thinking of seeing a physio in the summer re my bumpy knee - as though it doesn't pose a problem I'd quite like to be rid of it - so maybe I can check it out then.
