Morning everyone and well done on all your running ventures this week and if you've done parkrun this morning well done for that too...how lovely is it when the sun is smiling down on us when we're out and about?? It really does warm the heart...

Set off this morning, across the road for my second parkrun in a row! Must've really liked it last week?! I have to say though that I still struggle with the feeling of inferiority when I'm trudging further from the front than I am to the back but if I dont carry on doing parkrun then I'm never going to get over this am i? Well, that's my theory. So like I said, I'm crossing the road, faffing with headphones, Garmin, strava...bloody bluetooth...what the heck?? Why are my headphones not pairing? Ok, joins the crowd, near the back, listening to the announcements, joining in the clapping coz I cant really hear as I'm trying to connect these flaming headphones...time to run...ok, I'm going to have to run naked because my music is playing and everyone else can hear it...made me giggle a bit because I wasnt sure if they were connected or not to be honest..then realised they really weren't...so unzips pocket gets phone out and I turned my music off...I was really running naked...I could hear every breath and everyone elses breath too and mine sounded good...so off I went, I really, really, really wanted to beat last weeks time but I didnt fire off like a dog off lead I just tried to get into the rhythm..which I did, I usually run to the beat of my music but no choice this morning I had to find my own beat...over the grassy part and onto the gravel, I'd started passing other runners and felt good...then, I caught up with 3 ladies who were wunning (made up word, walking and running) but they were taking up the whole path so I decided I would have to go on the grass to pass them...so I hopped to my right, onto the grass but I caught the edge of the grass/path and it was uneven, I lost my balance...I started to feel myself fall...oh no, I'm straightening up, oh wait no, yep, no yep I'm ok, no, I'm not, yep, no...the ground was coming towards me aaaaaand bump, I was down...bugger...I've fallen. Tut...but...I am ok...I am really ok...my leg (the one without the kneecap) is ok...I know that when I get up I will be able to run...the people around me were so lovely...one lady looked horrified "oh no, you've had surgery on that leg!!" She yelled...."it'll be fine" I said...so I got back on my feet and walked through the strange feeling that was going through my knee...but I set of running again and yes, it felt different but that's not the only thing that felt different...I had fallen and I WAS OK!!!! I have been running for just about 2 1/2 years now and I have, at last, got my first dreaded fall out of the way....my legs are so much stronger than they used to be...and so am i! I would've collapsed into a pathetic heap clutching my leg in despair at one time but here I was still running. I ran and walked a little then ran again, you get the picture....when I was about 500m from the finish there was an older bloke in front of me running bent over...he was making strange noises and I knew he was struggling, before I could catch up to him he fell forward, full length...I gasped and told him to stay there but he got up and set off again, after about 10 steps he was down again, this time I was nearer to him so I stopped to help but then some of the finishers came across to help so I ran to the finish...at last, I'd done...the time email hasn't come through yet...I know I definitely havent beaten last weeks time but I have beaten something much more important...

Happy running wherever you are and whenever you run....and remember this running is amazing, we are amazing and no matter what hurdles are in the way we can jump right over them and survive...xxxx

Oh you poor thing, it looks painful but glad you felt OK to keep going and well done for helping a fellow runner at the end, hope he was OK too. People who take up the whole path are so annoying, it's like they have no awareness of anyone else. Grrr.

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to Debston

Thanks Debston , I know what you mean...I was near the back and they were just chit chatting as they trundled along...probably didn't think about anyone passing them, I'm starting in the middle next time so I prob wont have to overtake!!

Thanks UpTheStanley ....I was only 1 min 30 seconds slower than last week so I was doing well and would probably have smashed my PB 🙄

It’s not the parkrun you were hoping for mummycav , but you gained so much more from that run than a finishing time . Well done you. I hope you aren’t too bruised tomorrow and that it all feels better soon. 😘

MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to Dexy5

Thanks Dexy5 ...I certainly did come away with a different opinion of myself...I was amazed that I was ok to be honest! Must be made of stronger stuff than I realise?! My knee seems ok today so will be out running tomorrow x

Well! That’s an eventful parkrun Mummycav ! Poor you, I bet that hurt 😩

We go down so much harder as adults. I saw a little girl fall flat on her face a while ago and I cringed thinking there’d be lots of tears but no she just got up and brushed her hands and carried on. Bless. We can take a lesson from her. I think if I’d fallen like that I would have cried 😩

Hope you heal quickly and the chap is ok though xxx

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to Irishprincess

It did hurt...and I forgot what it's like to fall on gravel!!! My hands were all scratched and bleeding too...but everything seems ok today thank you..in my BR (before running) life theres no way I'd have got up if I'd have fallen...but it's a completely different story now it seems!! I knewlĺl I was just going to have to let myself fall so I just went!!! And yes, we do fall differently we tend to tense up whereas children just go all floppy!!! I'll be back out again tomorrow, weather permitting 😊

Amazing Mummycav!! Massive well done to you. You and that gentleman really showed what running is all about. I can imagine falling down isn’t a great feeling, but we don’t have to have it all go well. Loving it enough to just be there to do it, is what makes you get back up and keep on going. You finished and you was right there to help a fellow faller that day! I’d say that’s pretty amazing. Whatever the time? It was so the right time!! Hope your knee is feeling ok. 🤗🤩🤩❤️

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10

Aw, thanks Fabulous450 , I was only 1 min 30 seconds longer than last week so God knows what time I'd have got without all the drama?!! My knee and my pride seem ok today, I didnt see the fella afterwards, it was so scary seeing him falling...and then for him to fall again

..I didnt see any ambulances or anything so hopefully some water and anbit of TLC saw him right xx

Fabulous450 profile image
Fabulous450Graduate10 in reply to Mummycav

Ah I can imagine and hope he’s ok too. It’s a great time Mummycav with all those dramas occurring! The obstacles come along without any announcement, but you responded with kindness and care. That, in many ways, is a great run!! ❤️

I think I've had 4 falls since I started running. Luckily most have not been witnessed!

A mere scratch! Clean that up and it'll have a tiny plaster on it! So glad you recovered so quickly and from the 'mental' issue of falling whilst on a run (it's happened to me too).... great feeling getting up and carrying on (and a good excuse for not beating any PB's)!

PS I had huge bruises on my knee one of which only turned up nearly 2 weeks later !

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to primaballerina

Thanks primaballerina , yes, it was a good feeling being able to keep going. Bruises are strange arent they? They just appear sometimes! Glad you're ok and enjoying your running x

Well done Mummycav - what a trooper! I am currently on the IC with a fractured foot but am planning to re-do C25K when I can run again. The doc said he would discuss the idea of running when I see him again in 5 weeks! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️😀👍

(Thinking about Michael Johnson next time - last time was Sarah Millican)

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to JoP61

Thank you JoP61 ...I'm sorry to hear you're on the ic...is it a running injury??? Starting c25k sounds like a good plan, easing yourself back into it gentle will be kindest to your foot....but only when your Doctor says!! Fingers crossed you'll be back up and out there in 5 weeks or the abouts...

Michael Johnson is my favourite, he got me through c25k, I felt I'd built up a relationship with him!! Good luck x

JoP61 profile image
JoP61Graduate10 in reply to Mummycav

Not a running injury - I missed my footing coming downstairs and turned my foot right over! What an idiot! Everyone says Michael J is the way to get going again. Looking forward to giving it a go in August hopefully. Take care. x 😀
