Anybody braving the wind and rain?

Hello fellow runners, how are you all coping with UK's monsoon season? :) I did a rather unpleasant 7k yesterday morning, the first half was the worst; running into the wind and the heavy rain, the return 3.5k was slightly better as it was blowing the other way but still not great. The weather seems slightly better today here in Northants, hopefully it will be somewhat dryer for my next planned run on Friday.

I love running in the rain but am not too fussed about wind as its so hard running towards it. I went out yesterday but got lucky as the weather was horrendous early on but seemed to dry up a bit as soon as I ran! Lucky! Today is better but it's so cold I can't believe it's June. I'm in the south west.

Thats what i thought IP...there is no heat in the weather AT ALL?!! Brrrrr

We put our heating on last night which I can't remember ever doing in June before.

Heating on here also 😒

I know, mines on as we speak! My Hubby is a heating engineer and he hates the sound of the boiler kicking in when it’s supposed to be summer!! I was just considering going to buy some coal to get the fire going too....although I don’t need an excise to have a fire, I love them!

Heating? The Mrs lighted the log burner!

Hi! Well done for your 7K in those conditions, that must have been tough! I’m in London and just went for a rainy run, it was refreshing but I do hate it when it’s windy and the wind is against you! I heard nicer weather is around the corner!!! Fingers crossed, although I think I prefer rain to it being too hot! ☔️😃👍 Have a great run on Friday!

Blumming weather?! What's going on?! I ran on Mon eve in the rain, i was proper soak but felt quite liberated!! Its been on and off a bit today here in Yorkshire but I'm planning a longer run tomorrow morning so fingers crossed that its not monsoon like weather tomorrow for me or friday for you!!! Well done for even thinking about running in it...how hard are we??!!! Lol

Yes, there was a feeling of achievement that I had run 7k even in atrocious conditions, but the feelings of being freezing and totally soaked were stronger 😂😂

Haha...I know what you mean...I spent Monday evening, after my shower, under a blanket...I was frozen to the bone!

I’m on the south coast and we are pretty lucky today from the sound of things. Grey but more or less dry, and it was lovely this morning when I ran. On Monday, however, we had the full monsoon. Drowned rat look was the only available option!

The "drowned rat look" describes my look yesterday perfectly 😒

I spoke too soon about it being slightly better today, its pouring again now :(

I will be braving 5k very shortly and no rain at the moment although sky looks black. OH bought me a baseball cap to help with the rain so will wear that although I overheat so most probably come back boiling 🤣

Very impressive - 7k in that weather - think I may have taken a short cut !!! 🏃‍♀️

Well I was tempted but it was 3.5k up a disused railway line, after that I had no choice but to turnaround and do another 3.5 to get back to the car 😒

Typing this and then heading out....it is pouring!!!🌧🏃🏽‍♀️🌧!🙂

How did it go? :)

Sandraj39 profile image

...it was very, very wet but once I'm out in it, I always quite enjoy running in the rain! 🏃🏽‍♀️🙂It was cool too - which is a bonus in my books!

I managed to get my run in yesterday morning in the dry but the black clouds were gathering with a met office warning of lightening storms at 12.00. I’m sure someone had them but not us this time. I guess we are now paying for last years never ending summer.

orangeguy profile image
orangeguyGraduate10 in reply toDexy5

I think you are right, we are paying big time! 😒 . . . Another torrential downpour here this morning, glad I'm running tomorrow morning not today. I'm already expecting puddles like lakes tomorrow on my normal route.

We managed to run through the winter months, all those storms, every other day a new visitor came to batter us. So of course we will run. The lovely weather at Easter was sent to make us believe summer was just round the corner. The weather gods are messing with or minds. But we are made of strong stuff so will just keep trotting out.

Ps my heating is on too.

When the going gets tough, the runners get going! 😂😂😂 . . . .or something like that 😂

Yep.. I did 7k last Tuesday and another 5k this morning. I'm in Northants as well and got drenched. The rain wasn't so much the problem it's the cold wind when your soaked! Really pleased with myself for getting out.. I was considering the gym and a treadmill but I find that so boring.. I have a 10k on Sunday - Brackley Chicken Run. Hopefully the weather will be better but the t-shirt and medal at the end will keep me going 😂

Well done for going this morning 👍 . . . I was quite relieved I had planned to go tomorrow morning when I looked out the window today, although I now see rain tomorrow is forecast also, tomorrow was supposed to be dry 😒

Yep, I ran yesterday in Northants too, at least some of my focus was on not falling in deep puddles. It's still raining this morning. Good luck for rainy runs until this series up. (Bet it goes straight to a heat wave😆)

orangeguy profile image
orangeguyGraduate10 in reply toZanzib

The puddles along the Brampton Valley Way were the width of the path and too long to jump, I gave up trying after a while and just went straight through them 😒 . . . everything else was soaked so feet might as well be also! 😂

Wow! I ran 5k between showers on Monday but the rain clouds were following me. A couple of roads were flooded so I had to go in the bushes 😂

I’m in Norfolk and yesterday it rained continuously. I will go and run today though as I’m suffering from cabin fever!!

I went out on my “4K with hills” route this morning and it tipped down all the way. Unfortunately the water running off the hills was directly on my path, so I have very wet feet now

Thank goodness for hot showers is all I can say.

I’ve got this to come in about 4 hours. I like running in rain but definitely not wind and it takes a lot of effort to get out of the house when it’s like this .

Luckily I am also doing my shorter but with hills route today so will hopefully not take as long!
