Inner thighs are RAGING!!!

I’ve been running since January, been comfortably running above 5 k since March with no ill effects, aches or pains.

Today did 9 k run and tonight my inner thighs are killing me!

Why would that be? Never had this before and have done several 8k runs and a 10K a couple of weeks ago....

Or is it just me?!?

TIA

I’m no expert but a friend complained about inner thigh pain after shorter runs and discovered she needed different shoes after gait analysis. She is ok now.

I’m sure there are better experts on this than me though. Hope you sort it.

Thanks for the info. Shoes have been fab so far (300 km of running) and were analysed for fair etc when I bought them. And terrain was “normal” so can’t see what was different today.

Will see how I am tomorrow!

Did you go harder/faster? More downhill than usual? Different route? There is generally a reason...

It was a route I had run several times, small incline, steady under foot and I can’t for the life of me think what was different.

Ran again today and they still ache a bit, luckily not when actually running!

Are you using a sports watch? Does your data show anything? Increased speed or heart rate?

Inner thighs can be over-striding, taking slightly too big a step. It doesn't usually hurt until after but it can be a sign you need to adjust your stride or ease up a little. Those muscles have not adjusted yet.

No heart monitor but I track my time/speed. It was warmer than I'm used to but my pace was as per my usual, though hadn't thought about stride length and so on. Maybe I was running a bit differently. Much better today, having done parkrun yesterday.

Hopefully it's a passing thing. Feedback from the body does need to be heeded, often it's just adjusting to the new activity but it's important not to ignore warning signs 👍😁

Yes, having had some horrible injuries (not running related) I am very aware of any twitches and signs. This is probably a one off, something just a bit different about that run, but as you say I don't want to ignore any warning signs.... fingers crossed it's done with!
