May 10k along the stunning Asturias coastline

I haven’t posted for a while because I have been really struggling to shake off the most horrendous cold. Still not fully fit, but I set myself the goal of running a 10k each month and, having had my race cancelled, was running out of time. Also, we spent an awful long time travelling yesterday so I was ready to stretch my legs. I had a look at the map and discovered that there was a promenade all the way along the beach into Ribadesella and round to a headland so, with the sun shining but not too warm, off I went. Shame I can only post one photo on here (more on Strava), but it is absolutely stunning. Never been to Northern Spain before and I love it. Anyway, not a record breaking time at 1:13 and, although it felt flat Strava says there was 197m elevation, which I find very hard to believe! May 10k in the bag. Now to walk back with Chris and Ben and find a nice little cafe and gaze out to sea. Have a great day 😃

Ohhhh look at that beautiful scenery Sandie, how wonderful! 😍 Hopefully the sea air will see off your cold once and for all. 🤞

Your ‘not fully fit’ time is still quicker than my PB, so no worries there speedy!! 😅😅

Great you fit your 10k run in before May runs out - got one planned for June? We’ll be in Brittany for 10 days or so mid-June. Looking forward to finding some pretty routes. 😀🏃‍♀️😀

I’m not sure what I was expecting but I have been blown away by the scenery, colourful coastal villages bustling with people even out of high season. It is all so alive. Just gorgeous ☀️ Not to mention that we had a 3 course lunch with freshly caught fish and a bottle of wine for €28 for both of us in Castro Urdiales yesterday. Bargain😃

Jealous? Me? Well yes, now you mention it! 😅

I really envy you running on the North Coast of Spain, I remember my drive along there years ago. It is one of the most beautiful of places.

Hope the cold is gone now that you have hit the warmer sea air.

❤🙏

Still a bit snotty but getting there. Hope you’re feeling better too. It really is stunningly beautiful - although off the auto via very slow!!

What a beautiful place! Our piece of heaven is the Isles of Scilly...only a couple of weeks to go before our next visit. Slight shortage of stunning mountain views but it has a lovely feel to it. Well done on the 10k. I managed a steady 7k today so on the way back up. Looking forward

I’ve never been to the Isles of Scilly but they look lovely. Having the house in France means we tend to spend most hols (except the annual ski trip) there! Now I’ve semi retired though we are hoping to see more of the UK. Well done on the 7k - on your way back Beachcomber

Wow! Wish I was there rather than having spent the morning decorating the bathroom!😩 It looks and sounds wonderful and well done on your 10k. I had a horrible winter of illness and it's so nice when you feel you are at last getting back to normal. Enjoy the rest of your holiday!😀

Thanks Sandra. Yes, you are welcome to the decorating! Got another 10 days or so before we go back to our house in France. Next stop Santiago de Compostela- a bucket list destination!

Great run... and what a location! Elevation change often leaves me scratching my head after a run... maybe GPS lock didn’t quite nail 3D and so altitude was a little erratic, I think it needs 3 satellites to lock down location and 4 to be accurate on the vertical too (from memory.). Enjoy that cafe.

Lovely area to run Sadie. We have travelled right along that coast, France through to Portugal....it is beautiful! Watch for the Eagles particularly if you are around the Picos 🦅....... fabulous!

We saw eagles in the Pyrenees when we were there a couple of weeks ago - awesome! Planning a trip into the Picos tomorrow after a day of leaving the van on site and running/walking everywhere

Sorry to hear about your cold Sandie, and well done for getting out there. It looks a wonderful place to run.

Are you travelling around Europe in your campervan?

Hi Dexy5 ! Yes, we’re doing a couple of weeks round northern Spain in the van, then back to the house in France for a couple of weeks before going back to the UK for July.

Beautiful! How lucky to be running in such scenic places whilst travelling! Your 10k time is the same as mine (not that I've run one recently 😔) and rather good if you were under the weather. Hope you're on the up now and enjoy Santiago de Compostela - on my list too!
