Getting in to gear !!

Hi guys !! Ran our final 10K this morning before tapering down for B,ham great run a week sunday .Damp conditions ,but nothing too heavy, and to be honest we were wetter from sweating than from any rainfall !! Just two more 5K runs (sunday + wednesday) to go then 3 days rest before the big day .We have never even attended such an event before never lone run in one , so we are buzzing with anticipation at the moment !! Tomorrow just might be shopping for running gear day ,our first 'proper' outfits too ,well its just going to have to be blue, to match my 'new balance' trainers !!

Just before signing off guys could I just ask if anyone is yet running a sub 30 minute 5K ,of course its not everybody's goal, but just interested how many who graduate C25K actually go on to achieve their goal of a sub 30 - could this be the subject of a poll perhaps ,admin guys ?!?!

Good luck with your first big run Fit4life +1. I just loved the great Bristol 10k last BH . Brilliantly organised too.

One year from graduation I am still working towards that 30 mins 5k but I hope it will be at parkrun sometime this summer. My fastest is 31:34 so far.

Thank you D5 !! Can,t wait now , just this minute opened up my 'race number' pin thingy !! Its all official now, ooh 'eh !! Will be working hard to bring my time for 5K down after this B,ham run - only time against the clock I recorded 33:44 , have a feeling that will come down when I go for a Pb in 2 weeks or so .It was always my goal from day one but at that point I definitely didn,t realize how much work lay ahead before being physically in a position to achieve a sub 30 !! You are within touching distance now, so keep going ,train hard, and you,ll get below that ' magic' number very soon !!

How exciting! It'll be brilliant fun, make sure you love every minute. Like Dexy5 I did the Bristol Great Run albeit a few years ago and it was brilliantly organised so I know you'll have a ball.

Just make sure you practice running in your new gear before race day. You don't want to try anything new on the day just in case 😩

I ran a sub-30 about 18 months after I graduated but it was never a goal.

Thank you IP !! From the off I felt the need to set goals, especially after graduating C25K , as the road to, 'Graduate 10K' could have been a rocky one sans goals and check points on route . We started our C25K back in late December '18 and although Mrs Fit4life and I run our 5K,s at the same time of day , we don,t run together now, as our goals time wise are different , this also allows me time to do some sprint repeats after my run and before wifey finishes up !! Well done with your sub 30 !!

You've both done really well in that time 🙂

Ah nice one. Doing my first proper 10k on Sunday in Manchester. Never thought when I started C25k back in Jan I’d be regular running 26 min 5ks... fair play to all of us, whatever your time...

Yes , the investment we make daily , not only physically but with unflinching commitment to the vision , keeping it clear and uncluttered by all things negative , over time ,will pay dividends and contribute abundantly to us acheiving our goals, be they running our Pb,s or enjoying a jog round the local park !!

Well run WWW , nice time for a 5K !!

I graduated 6 months ago and the best I’ve managed 5k in is 33mins. I have my first 10k proper race in three weeks and my number arrived this week too. Eek! Exciting and scary all in one. Good luck! X

Well done Kkruns !! Thats a good time for 5K ,and you will reduce that even more in the coming months no doubt !! Im learning that speed work must be laid over a firm foundation of longer slower paced running, 20 :80 in favour of the 'easy pace' run ! We have a 10:30 start time from outside town hall, B,ham, next sunday , and after shopping this morning we are fully equipped and prepared, as can be, to enjoy the experience and do justice for our charity of choice !! Enjoy your run Kitikatruns and don,t forget to post a piccy of that bling thing !! Yes, its 'scary Mary time', folks but so exciting too !!

I graduated in July and managed to achieve a sub-30 5k by October when I also completed 10k. I think doing the longer runs definitely helped my 5k pace!
