Long run? Not today.

Feeling inspired by some of my C25K VRBs doing 10k in recent days, I left work today convinced I was going to run 8. But it was later than I wanted when I got home, then boyfriend decided he wanted to run with me, but then we had to wait for his shorts to dry...... I can’t stand faffage..... i’m a get up and go person. Anyway, once we were out there it was awful. It was hotter than I’d expected, and quite humid, and pretty soon my heart rate was higher than i’d like and no matter how much I slowed and took deep breaths I just couldn’t seem to get it down. I started to feel a bit dizzy and had to stop..... so today’s 8k ended at less than 4 actually running. After my shower and some tears and feeling miserable about how rubbish I am, I thought back to last time I had a really rubbish run that had made me cry and I started looking at my calendar....... exactly 4 weeks ago. I thought my hormones were pretty well regulated by drugs but maybe not! So maybe I’ll stop beating myself up for now and try again tomorrow.

Don't try again tomorrow, we ALL have bad runs from time to time, have a few days off running, drink plenty of water the day before you run next, that way I am sure you will have a much better run than today, unless you have have been running for more than 6 months it is not advisable to run on consecutive days.

Think back a little further... it wasn’t long ago you couldn’t run 4k. Be proud that even when the run really sucks, you can now. We all get these days, and they change nothing... that 8 will wait and you’ll kick its butt for sure. Take it easy on yourself, you’re amazing... nobody who isn’t even tried 8k.

Happy running.

Hey don’t beat yourself up. You went out and had a run. Rest and run again. Don’t worry about distance, just enjoy xx

Aw this running malarkey is like an emotional rollercoaster, highs when all is good and flowing and so low when it doesn’t. You need to feel pleased you went out for your run and did run. And these hormones can really play havoc with us girlies. I’ve been quite glum to say the least when my runs haven’t worked out the way I hoped. I never thought running would mean so much to me. Don’t be hard on yourself, rest and prep for next run when your body is ready. It won’t be long 🙂
