I hope all you runners and racers out there have been able to make some running time over this glorious long weekend (for those of us lucky enough not to have to work).
Having had a pretty horrid winter running and a real struggle with motivation the spring has helped me get back into my early morning runs on days when I work from home but I hadn't been feeling my stamina was up to much. So this morning I dusted off my trusty Brooks Cascadias and struck out on one of my longer runs from last year with a plan to finish it earlier if the legs weren't playing ball.
A bit of a road run for the first km to get me to farm land, followed by a lovely 3km across grazing land (old photo but gives you some idea of the views) and under trees to bring me out under the motorway and then along to the glorious water meadows. No Kingfishers spotted today but the sound of birds and gentle flow of water across the clear chalk beds was melodic and helped me keep my pace nice and steady. Met some lovely greyhounds who wanted to play chase but were very well behaved. Back under the motorway and a final run in to town along the old railways track before running back into my estate and the final hill to slog before a five minute cool down walk home. 10.85km and it felt solid so maybe I've been better with my stamina than I thought. A nice end to lovely weekend. Have a great day whatever you plan to do.
