Started C25K in jan and I’m now in the bridge to 10K. Living in north Scotland I have been running in wind and less than 8-10 degrees. However did a Parkrun this weekend and totally struggled and it was only 16 degrees.!
The 10K I’m doing is June and starts at 11am and I’m already getting nervous it’ll be be hot (one more thing to worry about). 😬.
The more you run in the heat does it get easier?
Thanks for any help - you forum folk are great 👍🏻

Hello! Yes, you do get a bit more used to running in the heat the more you do it. I managed to do a 10k training plan last summer when we had a heatwave - phew! I was going out at 6am to avoid the worst of it, and it was still flipping hot!
Just make sure you take on lots of water the days leading up to your race, and carry water with an electrolyte tab it in on the day of your race - that stuff really helps. And get a good peaked cap and sunglasses. And if it is hot on the day of your race, just take it nice and slow. My times are slower in hot weather, but better to be safe.
Humans, unlike most other mammals, are brilliant at sweating - that is why we make such good runners. 😊 Prepare, but don’t let it worry you!
I agree with Sadie re hydration and electrolyte tablets. They really do help. 👍 And sunglasses too. 😎 I personally don’t like wearing hats, but loads of people swear by them.
Going out early helped me massively during last summer’s heatwave - I did C25K from June-August with a trip to Bavaria thrown in for good measure in July. It couldn’t have been much hotter for a newbie runner, but I made it! 🏃♀️🥵🏃♀️ Your body does get used to it. Just be prepared slow down and not worry about resembling a 🍅 and you’ll be ok!
I too have 10k races in June and August, so I hope to be practising what I’m preaching! 😅🏃♀️
Not forgetting a slather of high factor sports sun cream on exposed skin. Try some different ones to find one you like that works. Got to protect that skin - going to need it a long time with all this healthy exercise! 😄
😮 I’m nae believing this post 😂! It’s Aberdeen! U do realise that’s our summer we’ve just had 🙄😂! Likelihood of it being a chilly 8 degrees for the June 10K with a thick harr along the beach 😂
I tried peaked cap on Saturday at parkrun, kinda helps me but then my head gets too hot!! sweatbands are handy. I also read on here about putting kit in freezer before wearing!
I sweat like a sweaty thing. I wrap a headband around my wrist and only if needed do I put it on my head. I can’t stand the stinging of hot sweat in my eyes.
