This will be the first time that I've run in an organised event! I've got my barcode and sorted out transport to get there half an hour early, so I think I'm all set. I should be OK with the distance and I don't have a ParkRun PB to challenge me, I just need to get on with it.
My first running "event": Chipping Sodbury P... - Bridge to 10K
My first running "event": Chipping Sodbury ParkRun this coming Saturday.
The first run (and the next ones) are a real buzz. Good luck and enjoy it!
Have a blast SM! You’re not too far from me, I’m in Bristol and regularly do Eastville Park or Ashton Court. 😀 Let me know if you fancy trying one of those one day. 👍
In the meantime, enjoy Saturday. You’re sure to get hooked, it’s so much fun. 😀🏃♀️🏃😀
My osteopath from last week runs at Ashton Court 🙂
Have fun! Whatever your time, it will be your parkrun pb! 😊
You’ll love it. Prepare to be hooked. 50 shirt here you come 🤣
You will love it 😊 it took me so long to do my first Parkrun and now I’m hooked. Let us know how you get on 👍🏻
Best wishes, you will love it. Don’t take off too fast and start towards the back of the pack for your first one. It’s an amazing way to kick off the weekend.
Damien
Enjoy! You may find it's catching!😀
Don’t forget your barcode 🤣🤣
Good luck! I have my first park run this Saturday too. However after today's run I'm doubting myself I'm ready. But then we all have bad days don't we??
Good luck, I’m sure you’ll have a great run. If my Parkrun’s are anything to go by, it can be a bit congested to begin with but it soon thins out. I always go faster on park runs, but have one more than one occasion set off too fast and tanked on the last km - all part of the fun.
Ooh that's one of my local parkruns! I've only done a couple and that was years ago but they're really friendly. Enjoy!
Parkruns are generally good fun. No worries about times, there’ll be all sorts there. At my local one, we have manic under 11s and a couple of over 80s. Some people really race it, for others it’s a social thing. We even have walkers who do it with those funny pole things. No buggies on ours as it’s all woodland hilly trails. Some parkruns do though. It’s so hilly there that my PB for Parkrun is nearly 2 minutes slower than my PB for 5k! I’ve learned to be relaxed about that though (not).......after 20 attempts!
Enjoy yourself, the buzz will be great. Looks like the weather will be lovely for it!
Good luck!! It’s my first Parkrun this Saturday too, I’m nervous but excited 😊
Parkrun is great and I am sure you will love it. If you get there half an hour early, don't worry if there's no-one much about. I am a bit of a parkrun tourism addict, and usually turn up too early at a new venue. There's never anyone about other than other tourists and first timers asking each other 'is this the right place?' Ten to 9, or later, everyone descends from everywhere. Getting there early is useful if you need to park, I almost missed the start of my last tourist venture because the car park was already full and I had no idea where else to try to park.
Great, well done. I think you’ll like it 👍
Have a great time, you’ll love it!
Hi folks. Thanks for your support and advice. I think it's going to help tomorrow.
Enjoy it 👍
Having started my running in the winter, I think those were the warmest conditions I've ever run in! Not that it made any difference to my run. With it being my local event, I was looking out for people I know so I didn't really speak to anyone which was a mistake but there's always another week.
Anyhow, I started off too far back which resulted in me walking to begin with and then a period of overtaking. Once I'd got settled, I think I was over cautious but that's better than overdoing it and I've learnt some lessons for next time. I was keen to beat the 50% grade for my category and I did that comfortably so I'm pleased about that. My time was 2 minutes off my best so, with the lessons I've learnt, I should be able to easily beat that. "I'll be back "!
