Ok, this is a bit of a late post as I didn’t know what forum to put it on (you’ll see what I mean but I warn you, it’s a bit of a long one...). I had the most amazing running week last week and I’ve been holding back and holding back but I’ve got to say something.
Mad day 1: So, last Wednesday I went out for my usual long run. There was a road I hadn’t been down yet. I knew it was long but the weather was nice and I was curious. It took a long time...I didn’t look at my Fitbit as I was too busy concentrating on running on country roads and grass verges. I got back to near home and looked...8.5 miles 😱 My legs were feeling tired but I generally felt ok and thought...’it’s now or never’, so I took a more scenic route to get back to near my house. Smashed 10 miles! Whoop, whoop! Never been over 7 miles before...my calves were on fire and I had to wander around for quite a while to calm them down, but boy the buzz from doing it was so worth it!
Mad day 2: Saturday...parkrun day. Lovely weather, perfect for a PB I thought, but I don’t go out to do PBs, I just run and hope. Legs had mostly recovered but I had a niggly right knee. Ran round at what I thought was a fairly respectable rate, got back to the funnel, had a lovely warm handshake from a volunteer I knew and saw the scanning queues were longer than I’m used to. Saw Katnap a few people in front (he’d PB’d), looked at my watch and it was pretty obvious I was in alien territory. Official time 27:13 new PB for me too! 😱😱
Mad day 3: Sunday...I’d arranged to meet up with up with a friend to run the route of the Regency Run 10k we have coming up. We hadn’t run together before and I wasn’t sure how it would be as she’s been running much longer than me (& my knee was now more niggly). However, we plodded round, I could see she was more suited to the first 5k which was hilly and I was better on the flatter second 5k. We stop/started a few times and my knee eased off. Got to what would be the end, checked my watch and found I’d knocked 3 minutes off my 10k PB 😱😱😱
A week on from the 10 miles I’m still coming down from the shock. My knees have been proudly shot the last couple of days. I don’t recommend what I did but I think I’m getting more used to what some parts of my body are saying to me now. The niggles were all down to tight muscles and are well on the mend after lots of rest and extra stretching.
So I discussed with Katnap where to put this post, he said I should put it on the Marathon forum, but only the first one is right for the Marathon forum, the second is C25K and the third is B10K, so I’ve gone for the middle ground.
Now let’s see if I can get that 60 minute 10k on Sunday 🤔🦆🏃🏻♀️
