After last Saturday fun run sprint causing a knee injury and my subsequent training run disaster I am pleased that today's run was much better! I think my knee injury affected both my hamstring and calf muscles which were probably trying to compensate during last Thursdays run, I just had to stop at 4 miles. I did nothing but rest my legs until today. My planned run was 6 miles and I just took it easy. The hills were challenging but taken slowly. My left leg felt alright, a vast improvement on last week. Legs felt a bit tired after 5 miles. My forerunner died at 5.7 miles but I carried on to the 6.1 miles to home in 59.50 so was not far off pace. I have stretched off and feel I little stiff but good. Now I need to see if my knee remains ok. If so, my training plan for 10k in 2.5 weeks is on!! My training runs are now taking in some of the route including the pesky hill i have to do twice. It is all getting a bit real now.
Better training run today, I think! - Bridge to 10K
Better training run today, I think!
Great news H! Big sigh of relief ππΌπ
Avoid stairs, particularly going down stairs whilst your knee heels fully. At home come down the stairs backwards.......trust me it works (but hold on to the bannister).
Race on yeah ππΌββοΈππΌββοΈππΌββοΈππΌββοΈππΌββοΈππΌββοΈππΌββοΈππΌββοΈππΌββοΈππΌββοΈ
Thanks Jacs, muscles are feeling like they have run but the knee is ok at the moment. I think I might need some mental help with the hills as I have just realised I have to do half the hill followed by the whole hill twice. I didn't quite realise the last time round was the whole hill......onwards and upwards!!
You can do those hills, as ever slow and steady, focus 10 to 15m at a time ππΌπ
Brilliant - really pleased for you! π
Thanks Sandra, I am hoping the rest of the training goes well as I have a few 6 mile runs to do!
Very well done you... glad the knee seems on the mend too
I hope it will be ok. It seems fine at the moment.......just hope it doesn't swell after running on it. It has a rest until Thursday!
Yay! There you go....well done, take care of that knee.πββοΈ

It is such a relief that I could run the distance today. I took advice from the forum, rested it and took it easy today. I will do the same on Thursday too. Just got to stay out of trouble now!
Great news, well done.
And don't worry about the hill. If you can get up it once on your own, I'm pretty sure you'll manage twice with other people around. Maybe having other people in front of you will shield you from the view of what's ahead!!
Having people in front of me during the parkrun hill does make it easier lol. It must be the psychology of not seeing the hill that makes it easier to run!
Sounds very promising! Just keep taking it really easy between now and the big day. Rest is such an important component of training isn't it
I am trying to take it easy and injury free! It was my birthday yesterday and I am feeling so lethargic for a 6 miler today but we will see how it goes. I feel like I need rest!!
Maybe worth adding an extra rest day in then? It's worth listening to your body if injury is still a recent memory... Plus you prob need to factor in post-birthday recovery too. Many happy returns
Thanks Ruth I did a slower 6.14 miles although there were get out points along the way if needed. It wasn't bad in 61 minutes, happy with that. Feeling good now so I can indulge in more cake!
