I made my first foray out on to the Middlewood Way today. Went with a friend. We both did 30 mins on the outward then turned around. I ran, she walked.
With 15.5 km to go to reach my target distance for this month I was aiming for 9.5km today. I got back to the end before my friend so ran back out to her. 9.9km. Well I couldn't leave it at that could I? So I gave it some welly and did the last 0.1 to make 10km. It was my fastest ever 5km on the way out, and my fastest ever 10km once done. Every split was below 7 mins per km. I did stop the timer and walk a bit with my friend on the way back in, but I'm still really chuffed with the pace. I checked with my 2 experienced running friends and m still way slower than them, but reckon I'd just about be able to keep pace with my neighbour now.
So, the big question... will I do 5.5km tomorrow to reach my goal for the end of the month? Probably. I've arranged to go to a friend's and run together. It has to be an early run as I'm going out tomorrow at noon. So I'll probably do it...
Just fuelling up on chocolate and banana fairy cakes. Well, a runner's got to have fuel!
