Is this a crazy plan?!!!

It is a long time (just over a year) since I ran my last 10k so I have been absent from this forum πŸ˜•. But a conversation with a work colleague has got me thinking.....πŸ€”

She told me that the local HM was being organised again this year. It is 20 years since the last one! Well of course that is totally out of my reach BUT there is also going to be a 10k....... now that is a bit too tempting! The thing is, the event is in May. Of course I will need some new shoes πŸ˜„ and a plan! I remembered our wonderful Ju-ju's 10k plan and set about adapting it just a little to fit the timescale (thanks very much Ju-ju). Can I really get to 10k by May (considering my break from running due to IC) or is this a silly idea?! The positives are 1. I have been running more regularly recently, albeit short distances. 2. The route is flat and mostly even pavements and tracks. 3. I have time to gradually build up the distance, just about! The unknown is whether my ankle will cope.

What do you think lovely friends - is it a crazy plan?!

6 weeks is ambitious! But you’re running regularly already, 5k is probably no problem and you’ve done 10k in the past. So, no I don’t think it’s a crazy plan. Quite doable really! I read once that everybody is capable of running at least twice the distance they already do and if you can run 5k you can run 10k.

Good luck and have fun!

The progression looks like it’s within the 10% rule skysue, but I’d change the 9k to an earlier run in the week so that you are fresher for the 10k. Just listen to your body

Ahh, yes that is a good idea - thanks for spotting that πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

You'll do it..you will..You're an experienced runner and you're sensible..You have run 10K before..work out an adaptation of Ju's plan..to suit you...tweak it and balance the long runs out...

I had to tweak the HM plan considerably but still did it.

Look forward to following this and seeing how you go..please keep us posted?,

How exciting!!!

Yes! In fact I did 3x10secs planks and 10 standing press ups this morning! After my 5k run I did various stretches and a cool down walk 😊.So I am ready for the April Challenge - now I just need a mantra! 'Planks and press ups......' any ideas for a catchy phrase!

If you regularly run 5k and have done 10 before.

Start at 6k for the long run first week (don't forget the other two runs).

Then do +1K each week for the long run.

If you decide to go further one week again add +1k next week.

10K easy in 5 weeks for an experienced 5k'er

Thanks for taking time to reply and your suggestions. Love your name πŸ˜€. Do you like puffins? We saw loads when we visited the very northern part of the Highlands. I was captivated, beautiful birds 😊
