Running After a Reset*

* phrase pinched from Sadie-runs as it sounds so much better psychologically than a break to rest a sore knee!

Well I had decided - given that I had a sore knee and two weeks of wrestling work and home commitments coming up - to take a break in the hope of the knee settling down. This was no mean undertaking as it would be the longest break I'd taken since starting C25K in Aug '17.

The first week was terrible - mainly because the knee still felt sore and I was missing the mental break running provides during my week. The second week was slightly easier as I banned myself from looking at Strava and HU (and all those lovely runs by my VRBs) and I was travelling the length of the country mid-week so too busy to miss anything much and my knee was finally feeling like it was benefitting from the break.

I had decided to get back to running tomorrow as I'm expecting my knee support - as recommended by Hidden - to arrive from Amazon (thought a bit of extra TLC as I start up again could only be a good thing) but the glorious blue sky this morning was not to be missed.

Thought I'd head out using the C25K stepping stone - first because Laura's always a help when my confidence is a bit low and second because I wanted to be sure of going off gently.

In the end I'm not sure it helped as when running slowly at the beginning I found it really hard to get my breathing working in sync. It felt much easier at the faster pace at the end.

However whilst just a measly 4.5k at a snail's pace it felt AMAZING! Better yet there were no grumbles from the knee (though will wait to see if any soreness develops after) and after a cool down walk I felt like I could do it all over again!

Happy running everyone! ๐Ÿ˜Š

That was lovely to read deb. glad your knee feels good and that the sky was blue. Breaks can be scary canโ€™t they ? but this one sounds like it was needed and beneficial

Yes - it's scary how quickly you can stop believing in what you can do. The break was good and now need to have proper rest days - I think my mistake was trying to sneak in runs on too many consecutive days.

Just seen your post ๐Ÿ˜Š - it was such a beautiful day. I think I might have dragged myself along even if my leg was falling off rather than miss this beautiful Spring morning ๐Ÿ˜‚.

Whoohoo! I can see why that blue sky was calling you! So gorgeous! It is hard to take a break when it helps so much with the stress and pressures of every day life but it was just what your body needed! Yay! DebJogsOn is back.....just remember to take it easy to start....

It was a lovely return run.

I'm definitely going to take it easy over the next few weeks. I think lots of winter running on pavements and me sneaking in extra runs and not always taking rest days has been the problem.

Knee is a bit stiff now - but much improved. I will definitely be going steady.

LOL! Yep, sometimes you just have to adjust your language in order to inject some positivity! Running (and not running) is as much about the mental as it is the physical, eh?!

Very pleased to see you out and about again, Deb. You did well, and I am pleased that the knee held up okay. It was too beautiful a day to miss.

Yay! It's so good to be out there again. I think the knee may always be slightly pesky but at determined to look after it enough to be able to continue this lovely running adventure.
