How to keep occupied during your lunch break (4.5k)

Hi folks!

Since I'm back here, I thought I probably ought to start posting run reports again, just to send you all to sleep. Consider it a service :)

Today was one of those days when I didn't feel like running. I have really bad man flu (translation for all you ladies: a mild cold) and felt a bit grotty, tired, and achy. But having not run yesterday I decided I needed to get out there. The promised rain never appeared, and there was even a hint of sun, plus it was quite mild, so out I went. I'd decided on a route which would take me past my favourite cat bench (see yesterday's post) though no cat this time sadly, or I might have stolen it!

I ran a route through Buckshaw Village near where I work, down some of the quieter roads, nearly getting lost at one point as per usual. I was quite surprised I managed to keep up a reasonable pace, but I was getting quite tired towards the end. I probably should have made it up to 5k, but to be honest, I needed to be back. I still got further than I'd hoped. To be honest, anything above 3k during my lunch break I consider a win.

It was a reasonable run, though I felt quite fatigued towards the end. I was happy that I managed the distance and pace whislt feeling a little off colour, and felt cheered on by reuniting with you lot again!!

Happy running :)

Neil

p.s. As for running 4.5k during lunch break, well I think 3k is a really good distance lol

Nice! So nice having you back on board Neil, and it’s great having someone else here who writes long posts. Most people can be concise - I cannot! 😅

Thanks cheekychipmunks , that really made me chuckle, I thought that was one of my shorter ones 🤣 Still, at least with me you get value-for-money!

And at least with mine people can guarantee to grab the chance of a quick doze! 😅

Welcome back. I’d have to skip lunch if I ran in my lunch break, so no chance of that, great that you got out there (with man flu) 🤧

Thank you BaddieThePirate ! I only have a half hour lunch break, but I usually arrive quite early so it sort-of doesn't matter if I'm a little longer. I tend to eat my lunch at my desk whilst working, after returning from the run actually :)

Glad to hear you don't go hungry!

You won't send anyone here on Healthunlocked to sleep Neil, I notice the time you took for the run was just under 27 minutes so if your lunch time is a hour I assume that you had lunch after your run.

I think that a 3K run is long enough for a lunchtime trot. 😊

I hope your cold goes soon, not nice running while you have a cold.

Yes indeed, it's very good that you are "reunited" with us all here on Healthunlocked, either C25K, Bridge 210K or the Half Marathon or Marathon part, you are welcomed back to this happy 'family' of runners.

Thanks AlMorr , that's kind of you! See my reply above, but I get 30 minutes, but fortunately the boss is happy to be flexible if I turn up early etc. I still tend to eat my lunch at my desk whilst working though...

And yes, what a brilliant running family!

Hope you get over your man flu soon! And well done on getting out in your lunch break. 👏👏👏 That looked like a very nice trot indeed. Now rest up! Running will wait. 😁 x

Thank you Sadie-runs ! I used to sit at my desk or even in the car for a change of scenery, but you know what? This running lark is quite addictive! And I am resting thanks :) I have some quality time with my foam roller to look forward to I think :)

You did really well Neil..you battled gremlins, went running down unchartered territory without actually getting lost, ran 4.5k when 3k would have been plenty...and all whilst suffering with Man Flu😥...that is a win situation. Hope you did have time to eat and have a cuppa too. Good work my friend!😊xxxx

Thanks Jan, yes, without getting lost is the key here, and quite revolutionary for me I think 🤣And I would have done 3k, but you know, I got carried away as per usual! I'll never forget the time I went out to do about 3k and did 13.5... that was interesting!

Thank you JonathanP ! Definitely a fun use of a lunch break, though I really wish they'd put showers in at work lol Yeah, lunch eaten afterwards thanks :)

I wish I had the option to run at lunch. You're so committed Neil! 👍😁

Awww thanks Jo, I try! I'm so glad I can get out, it does me the world of good actually, though I'm constantly fighting stiffness at the moment, my work days are quite long and I have an hours journey each end. So much time sitting is not good for the back, and as my physio keeps pointing out, most muscle issues can usually be traced to tightness in the back, at least with me they can!!

Well done

I like a lunch time away from the desk too when I can.

Thanks Deals1 , It's revolutionary actually, and I feel so much better for it. Why didn't I think to do this the first 42+ years of my life?!

Hi Neil, I don't think we've met, but I also have a capacity for getting lost on runs, and then writing rambling posts about it, so we should get on well 😁 (and I'm impressed with the time for someone with man flu. Maybe the thought of your boss looking at his watch was an incentive?)😂

Well hello and thank you for your kind comments! I got lost on my long run a few weeks ago, so much fun. I knew roughly where I was so I wasn't worried, but there's just something about running without a care in the world, wherever the feet take us, isn't there?

grumpyoldgirl profile image
grumpyoldgirl in reply to 316neil

Yes, I did too, and I really didn't care at all, because I also knew roughly where I was, (in a wood!) And I knew I'd pop out somewhere I knew in the end, it was so peaceful.

Well done on getting out there. I just couldn’t run in my lunch break without showers or at least not if my work involved me coming into contact with any other living human!

316neilGraduate10 in reply to Sandie1961

Thank you Sandie1961 , yes I have to admit the lack of showers is an issue for me too, but I basically nip to the toilet cubicle and kind-of have a strip wash of sorts, it works! That way I'm not stinking the office up 😂
