Last week I convinced myself I couldn’t run in strong winds (40+mph) so I missed a week of running! But I do the Parkrun with my neighbour each week and so despite the strong winds we went! I survived and was only 20 seconds off my Pb. Maybe I got a push from the wind. Lesson 1 I can run in strong winds. Lesson 2 making a commitment to someone else keeps me going.
Next lesson came via another running friend. She asked if I’d like to run with her. Ooh now there’s a thought! Not done that before. I’m a loner. But I said yes and we chatted for 5K! Lesson 3 I can talk whilst I run.
Last lesson of the week came today. On my route to getting to 10k I had decided to run for 70 minutes or 6.5k whichever came soonest. So off I went with my new Garmin and tracked my pace which I think made me go faster but by the time I got to 6k I was really struggling but I’d forgotten how far I was aiming for or how long I was running for! So I decided to stop at 65 mins. Amazingly I did 6.8k! Definitely faster then?! But when I got home I could hardly stand!
Trying to stay upright in the shower I realised I should have taken some Hydrocortisone (I have Addison’s disease) before this run as I had pushed myself quite hard. Lesson 4 if I plan to push myself again I need to take it before rather than after 😏
So all in all an insightful week with some amazing achievements.
Last bit. A question for those who know about these things. What’s a VOX2 of 33 mean? My Garmin gave me this along with the advice I recover for 24hrs. So I went to the cinema to see the fisherman’s friends. Great film. Thank you everyone. 🏃🏻♀️😊

They say you’re never too old to learn knittingrunner 🧶. Well done for doing Parkrun in that wind 💨 I hope you are recovering well from today’s run - a g&t might help.
The advice I’ve heard is that a watch can’t really tell you VOX as it involves measuring health of lungs. I guess what it’s doing is measuring heartbeat and speed achieved and distance. I’m in the excellent zone according to Garmin.
I’d like to see that film too. Thanks for the nudge.
Thanks. A G&t would be nice but I went out for lunch and a glass of wine so I think I will give it a miss until the weekend I think 😉. Thanks for info about vox.
Great set of lessons learned KR! Every day’s a school day. 👊😀🏃♀️
Well done on braving the 💨. I’m so glad it seems to behind us now.
As for the VOX, mine also says excellent for my age. I know there’s debate as to how accurate a watch measurement really is, but I still love looking at the stat and feeling proud! So well done you! A good week all round it seems. 😀
