Decided to trial a new route today, not knowing the distance, even though I've driven parts of it several times. It was a toughie!
The first 2.5k was mainly uphill, with a few fairly steep downhill sections to break it up. I plodded on past the local pubs and leisure centre, cursing cars for not letting me cross as they pulled out, obviously in a rush... but I noticed as I went, the entire place smelled like a brewery! All I could smell was beer, but I suppose it was better than car exhaust!
I ran on along a section by the side of a ring road, until walking for around 30 seconds as I turned up one of the steepest sections, before lurching into a run again. At 4.5k it was REALLY hurting, my breathing rasping in and out, as I turned into the final downhill towards home. It was a long downhill slope into a headwind, but it was actually really refreshing, as the sun had come out and the temperature was rising.
As I came back to where I had started I'd run 6.2k, longest run for a while. It's nice that the distance is increasing, with some pretty good split times in there. I'm gonna have a shortie on Wednesday, around 3.5k, then try this route again next weekend, probably stringing it out to around 7-7.5k.
Twas a good run. ππͺπ
